SPEED will probably show all 24 hours from now on. Next year will be even better teams and drivers for sure.
Ya think? I'd like that. The lights are definitely bright enough to see the cars. I wonder how much more it would cost Speed to cover the entire event.

In 2001, they showed all 24 hours. I was hoping it would become a permanent thing back then.
I remember when ESPN did 24 hours. I can't wait for it to start again. The best was an interview with Derek Bell, just out of the car. His eyes were as big as dinner plates!

That the first year I had SPEED. I enjoyed the 24 hour coverage and figured it was the norm. It was really cool to be able to change the channel to SPEED at any point during the race to check standings and catch a little bit of the action on the track. Maybe they'll go back to the 24 hour coverage.
The worst part about the coverage is that they pulled away at sunset, which is really the coolest time of the day for endurance racing. It's a transitional period where it isn't day and it isn't night, and it just sort of sets the atmosphere for the event. Those who were at Kansas a few years back when they had that awesome sunset will know what I mean.
Endurance racing isn't just day and night. it's also the times in between, and for me, those are the most special moments because it's light enough to see the colors, but dark enough for the reflective graphics to show up, the brakes to glow and the cars to spark. Backfires are pretty cool too. For me, it's just the most visually engrossing time.

Actually the TV cameras make the night racing look a lot brighter than it really is. They're only using about 15% of the regular lighting power. But it's better than pitch black, and the drivers seem to think its fine, especially since the "kink" infield section is now lit up better.

Once again, Dan winning seems to be playing second fiddle in the media compared to how "you know who" did or did not do. All over the ESPN sports center clips.
