2021 IMSA WeatherTech Drivers/Teams/Silly Season

Here's a couple of those in the same frame.

Besides the ones listed with confirmed and/or possible entries, are there any other GT3 models that are eligible to run in IMSA (i.e. paid the marketing fee)?

Of GTD cars that have run in the last year or so, we have yet to see an Audi or McLaren officially listed by my notes. Although the McLaren was a GTD Sprint Cup program (no Daytona or endurance races) run by Compass Racing, who have been reported to have switched to an Acura NSX. For GS/GT4 we have seen the Multimatic Mustangs and a few Porsches recently.

Alegra’s lineup is confirmed for the Rolex. Daniel Morad is expected to stay on for the rest of the season with the other full-time driver(s) TBD.

Another strong lineup for the 24 with Maxi Buhk and Billy Johnson in the ride for the race with Morad. Thanks to CBSSN showing the international GT3 series (fast becoming my favorite form of motorsport) I've seen Buhk race plenty of times and if there's one thing I can say about him is he doesn't take "no" for an answer. If he's determined to get past you, he will.

- Full-season confirmation from Paul Miller Racing. Usual crew is back in their Lambo. Of note, they are loaning their regular 48 to AXR for Daytona as a nod to Jimmie Johnson. PMR will run the number 1 for Daytona.

- Ollie Gavin and Townsend Bell will run Daytona with Lexus. It sounds like they might have two more drivers coming on for the full MEC endurance campaign.

- A couple other GTDs have been added for Daytona in the form of SunEnergy1 coming back with their Merc for the first time in a few years, and Tim Pappas & Black Swan will be back in their Porsche.

Two updates for this morning:

Spencer Pumpelly and Mario Farnbacher have officially been confirmed with Magnus/Archangel, joining the regular duo of John Potter and Andy Lally. Spencer will be the endurance driver for the other rounds.

Felipe Fraga will miss the Rolex due to a Covid-related travel issue. Spencer Pigot will sub for him at Daytona in one of the Riley Motorsports Ligier P3s, but Felipe will still be the full-season driver.

The good: 10 LMP2s, 20 GTDs. The Bad: DPi and GTLM with 6 each. LMP3 is in its first year for this race so I wasn't expecting a large car count.

And here is the MPC entry list for the Roar. Unlike WeatherTech, participation in the Roar is not mandatory for MPC at Daytona so this could change. Although with the shorter gap between the Roar and the race, it’s probably pretty close to final. Also, no drivers officially listed.

I researched to see which of the models I listed are inactive (or, in the case of the GT3 Corvette, reputed to be difficult to race in the US) and checked the updated MPC list.

The only production-based car not entered in this season so far that reasonably could is the McLaren 720S in GTD.

In the pro-am LMP classes, there's no Riley in LMP2 and no Ginetta or ADESS in LMP3
