  • Joest and Mazda parting ways

They are parting ways after the 12 hours of Sebring with Joest possibly going to another manufacturer.

Meanwhile, Mazda has signed a replacement for Doonan...Nelson Cosgrove.
Cosgrove had served as TRD’s vice president of Engineering and Vehicle Development prior to previous stints with various NASCAR teams.

Seems a shame Joest and Mazda are parting ways after Joest (with some BoP help) made the Mazda DPi into a contender. Seems there was some friction between Juttner and Mazda prior to his departure.

Odd that Joest would operate the car for the first two 2020 events, then depart.

The bop help gets spread around. Strange way to run a professional competitive business.

It'll be interesting to see what Joest does next.

I think Mazda is holding them to the contract. Sounds like Joest may have another manufacture lined up that would simply be competition for Mazda.

Haven't heard any rumblings on that. Who do you think it might be?

Nothing in the Racer article contradicts what's said in the SC365 article.

Until after Sebring. That is when the Contract is up.

I really don't know. If it were not put out in the article I wouldn't have considered it. I would suppose it would have to be a current manufacturer. No way a new one comes in early right?

                            Not for all of 2020.

Whether the relationship with the Reinhold Joest-owned outfit will remain intact beyond the early stages of the 10-round season is subject to a future update from the Japanese brand’s American arm. Multimatic is tipped to take control of Mazda’s DPi program in the coming months.
