  • Blast from the past - Andrew Craig is new WEC American rep

    http://www.racer.com/index.php/wec-l...representative

The newly appointed position will see the British-born businessman work closely with the Circuit of The Americas, which plays host to the FIA WEC in September, while also looking for further opportunities in the U.S. and Canada to promote the globe-trotting championship.
You may recall the WEC powers that be reamed COTA a new one before and after last year's WEC race at COTA. I would opine part of that is WEC was jealous that ALMS drew a larger crowd on Saturday than WEC drew on Sunday, but it seems the issues included the operational side of things also.

Hmmm 'further opportunities'. Is WEC mounting a direct challenge to IMSA/TUSC, or could they be looking to race at some locations vacated by the ALMS/GrandAm merger? As well, Montreal has an open date remaining for Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve after the departure of NASCAR Nationwide, and it does have some history with Group C race back in 1990.

While I have no problem thinking that the WEC isn't as huge in the States as they think they are (especially on a Sunday in September in Texas), I also don't find it implausible that the CotA management could have screwed up that weekend (even on a Sunday in September in Texas).
