Felix Sabates description of the worth of the GA team he was involved in, from a deposition in his divorce trial.

An interesting read in the Charlotte Observer of how BFjr funded (at least) the Ganassi team in GA until his death.

Sorry but I could not find a link that does not require a subscription.

    Link is here.

I posted in the car count topic as it seems Ganassi wants to leave.

Grand-Am providing funding to certain teams in the series is nothing new, and has been talked about fairly openly for a while now. Also, Ganassi is looking to expand to two cars next year, not leave.

If anything this is a reminder of why these two series needed to come together. They each spent a ton of money trying to get their two series viable, and just weren't getting anywhere. This is the chance to change all that.

I even agree a merge is needed. But the way they are doing it is just more than totally wrong IMO. But well, what I think doesn't matter

First, this info all came out of a rather bitter divorce case, so I'd add a large grain of salt to what was said.

Note that Felix's depositon was in 2010.

“We’re trying to close the doors without embarrassing ourselves, the France family and embarrassing (the) Grand American Series,” he said in the deposition. “There is no money. There is no purse. There’s nothing.”
However, since 2010, Ganassi/Sabates have continued in the GA series with one entry and have fielded a second entry for various events (not only continued, but continued to win). Hardly what one would expect of a team 'trying to close the doors'. And Ganassi has recently announced plans to attempt to field that second car for the full season.

Now, I'd agree that there's very little purse in GA (as well as ALMS), but Ganassi's team has had consistently good sponsorship. Is the GA team a money maker? I'd say yes, but it's probably very little money.

I was gonna point that out myself. There is no court where lies are more likely to be spewed than divorce court. Never take anything said during such proceedings at face value.

During the proceedings mentioned in the article, Mrs Sabates is trying to make it appear everything Felix has is estimated at as high a worth as much as possible. Meanwhile, Felix is trying to make it appear he's right next door to the poor house.
