Wait until you turn 25. Seriously though, get with your insurance company to get quotes on various candidates such as the Mazda Miata, Honda S2000, BMW Z3/4, etc. You may also want to look at some sporty sedans or wagons as well. An example of this would be an Audi A3 or in my case, an S-Type Jaguar. The S-Type as a used car is relatively affordable, considered a family car yet is very sporty to drive.

Insurance rates on "sporty" Japanese coupes and sedans are very high right now because they are currently very popular with a younger crowd that has a very high average accident rate.

For example, my 23-year-old stepson's insurance was actually cheaper when he was rated as the primary driver on our brand new $30,000 Honda Ridgeline pickup rather than on his 3-year-old $15,000 Honda Civic Coupe. Newer vehicle, double the value, double the horsepower, but less expensive insurance. Go figure.

On the other hand, with State Farm the rates on my Corvette are the same as on a comparable-value family sedan, because most Vette drivers are older guys.

Check with your insurance agent and get a Vette. Serious. C5s (1997-2004) are very reasonable and are excellent sports cars.

Coupes and two-seaters have exhorbitant rates. One reason the Jaguar XKs have four seats even though the back seats are suitable only for legless midgets is insurance ratings.
