One day after announcing he no longer would drive a third car for A.J. Foyt Racing, Greg Ray agreed to a deal with Sam Schmidt Motorsports to drive the final two events of the season in Schmidt's No. 20 Dallara/Chevrolet.
"Sam and I are good friends, and I know a lot of the people on his team," Ray said. "I really respect what he has done. I think this is a chance for me to close the season on a high note."
Ray will replace Richie Hearn for the races at Joliet, Ill., Sept. 8, and Texas Motor Speedway on Sept. 15. Hearn fractured his ankle in an accident at Michigan International Speedway last month.
"Remember, your kids can get student loans, but there's no such thing as a retirement loan."
