  • Andretti Says it is too late for CART....

"I wish Chris would have been here two years ago," said 1991 CART champ Michael Andretti. "But I'm afraid it's too late."
From the latest Star article about Pook's efforts to save CART. This is the first time ever that I heard an Andretti state something like this.

    Is it May yet ?

He really inspires confidence doesn't he. Don't worry about what Mikey says, he is the bigest pessimist I have ever seen.

Pook gets it. Co-operation not war. Serving different markets. Too bad the patient had to almost die before they decided to seek help.

I bet CART moves it's offices to Keystone At the Crossing

Knockoff started a thread on another forum in which he restated the feelings of many Troyron fans:

That Chris Pook is only there to negotiate terms of the surrender. That's a really smart idea.

Derek Daly said on a radio show last night that Pook can save CART. I guess the word 'save' can be open to interpretation.

Maybe Mikey is looking to next year and has already made up his mind to jump ship. Maybe the deal is already done.
          I'm dead now.

Doc, there is still value in CART for Michael being the top American, as long as someone will write the big check and CART survives, he will be there. TG gets a lot of heat for his reported backing of Al and others, it would be interesting know how much funding came from CART sources to keep Michael, Vasser, Herta and other Americans in CART, and who paid for it.

CART's biggest obstacle against survival is the TV contract and what the ratings will do to the value of their sponsorships. Toyota has already stepped up with funding to take their sponsored Long Beach effort off Speedwhatever and move it to FOX. Pook is almost finished "fire fighting," my guess is that TV is next on the agenda! Pook will prevail, and CART will survive, with less then half the available the available money they are running on this year!

We view every Cart topic as a potential IRL topic.

Maybe Mike is already in the know about TKG's plans for next year.

                        From that same article:
Pook emphasized that the switch to IRL-style equipment isn't to facilitate a merger. Rather, he said, the groups will continue to serve different clients. He called the IRL "more of a stars-and-stripes sport" geared to "the Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge" crowd. He said CART helps companies with multi-national goals and reaches fans who buy "Toyotas and Hondas, import cars."

Maybe he should hire a former Network TV executive to help him.
DVR . . . . Life is too short to watch commercials.

oh I guess toyota's not building an irl motor or a funny car body for the drag racers.

yeah , they're just the wine and cheese crowd over there.

gimme a break. doesn't sound to me like he gets it.

if he wanted that kind of exclusivity, CARt should have stuck with the turbos.
                            It's a brand new day.

Moving to the potential IRL topic board.
