Mi-Jack and Conquest Join Forces to Enter a Full IRL Season

    Jan. 22, 2002

Indianapolis, IN - Conquest Racing, LLC, an Indianapolis, IN based competitor in open-wheel racing and Mi-Jack Products, Inc. a manufacturer of specialized cranes based in suburban Chicago, IL have reached an
agreement to form Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing, LLC.

The new entity Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing will bring together two well-respected names in the racing industry.

Conquest has successfully competed in the now disbanded Indy Lights series for the past 5 seasons. Indy Lights was the top-rung on the CART (Championship Auto Racing Teams) ladder system.

Mi-Jack Products, Inc. has been a supporter of open-wheel racing for the past 10 years as a sponsor in CART, Indy Lights and the IRL (Indy Racing League).

The new team has chosen the IRL as their battleground for the 2002 season.

Eric Bachelart, champion open-wheel racer, will maintain his position as CEO and will direct the race operations from the team’s facility in Indianapolis.

"We are excited about the upcoming season in the IRL. We ran the last two races of the season last year and were pleased with the new team’s performance. We know we still have some learning to do, but we think
we can make an impact on the series." Said Bachelart.

"It is the next logical step for our racing program." Said Mike Lanigan, President of Mi-Jack Products, Inc. "After ten years as a sponsor, to evolve our racing program into a partnership with Eric is good business.
Eric’s racing experience, as a driver and an owner, makes him a great partner in helping us achieve our marketing goals. We know he can bring a winning program to the table," continued Lanigan.

Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing is finalizing driver negotiations and will have an announcement within the next 10 days.

what are the chances this team can land a quality driver? not to say that Redon wasn't a quality driver last year, but I'd prefer another.

"Frickin' Frank Freon" was the tag we hung on the Parisian back in '95 when he hustled a three year old Lola Buick into the Indy field only to be bumped in the closing minutes..

So what you're trying to tell us is that Freon is cool???

                            Good.

We are going to have a pretty decent car count this year. And there are still a few "off radar" deals that are almost certain to happen. It's going to be pretty exciting come Homestead. I can't wait to get there.

I'll tell you that Franck was cool. He did a heck of a job in that "old Lola," the year that the Penske teams missed the show. He didn't hit any walls when others were, and he didn't try to hustle a car that had much less downforce then when it was designed. Every day they made gains with that car, as Freon learned. A lot of the speed in that old car came from Firestone too. I happened to be working just in front of that team the whole month, when Franck wasn't in the car he was along the fence signing autographs and talking to kids. I wish there was another Freon sighting, he did a good job.
