  • Solution for race today .....

    Make it a non-points race ...

That way, the RLR drivers and team can take the day off, without any consequences.
If CD’s were spun in the opposite direction, would it say everything backwards?

It's seems logical. And Rusty Wallace has a tough job for his first show.
Get your head out of your past!!!

That's well intentioned but I don't think it's fair to the drivers who are placing themselves in harm's way.

I really wish it was possible to cancel the race without ramifications to the series.

Gil de Ferran missed a race, and still almost won a championship.

Why would any team owner want to participate in a non-points race? The fans paid for a real show, and they should get one.

In the past, the IRL has awarded last place points to teams that qualified, but didn't start the race. They'll probably do the same today. The "missing a race" storyline is a good one, but if they get last place points, the real impact on the championship won't be that huge.

Seems so cold and harsh, but you cant turn the death of a driver in a meaningless practice session into a meaningless race for the rest of the field. Life goes on, the race and the season should go on. Dana would have been racing had it happened to someone else - it's the way it should be.

Best thing to do isn't to stop the race, or anything like that.

Best thing to do is pray for the family.

I know it does seem cold, but stopping the race or making it no-points won't do anyone any good.

That said, I can understand Rahal holding off on racing. It's a solid emotional responce.

My thoughts too. I'd hate to be in Rusty's shoes on a day like today. But Rusty has been a racer for a long time. He knows that as much as we all hate it, this happens. We'll see in a few minutes.

RIP Paul Dana. We hardly got the chance to know you. But even that little bit showed me that you loved this sport. Your family teammates and friends will not mourn you alone.

What RLR is doing is honoring a teammate... an honor they knew was going to cost them in the points.

Don't dilute the honor they are giving to Paul.

imo, we should always honor that person by doing exactly what they would want us to. dana was a driver and would probably want the race to go on.
