Are they actually showing footage of the practice?

Different men, from vastly different backgrounds, focused on the same goal – a white line painted on a yard of brick 500 miles ahead.

No. The interview with Chesson was clearly taped, as he was driving laps at the same time according to T&S. Still, very nice coverage. Interviews with Chesson are fun live or taped!

This is the re-air of Cold Pizza, it was on from 8-10am
"Ninety-two years ago [the Indy 500] was probably like any other race," said 2005 winner Dan Wheldon. "But over time it's just created so many storylines and history for people of our generation that now it's just massive. People value that history and tradition and you just can't take that away."

It's great that ESPN has bothered to acknowledge the IRL, but does anyone else think that Cold Pizza is the worst sports show around?

Yesterday, ESPNews was interviewing Drivers and Principles of the league ALL DAY!!! It was UNBELIEVABLE and they ALSO had commercials for the Race this weekend about 1-2 times every half-hour or so. It was actually about 3-4 commercials for the LEAGUE or the race itself every hour.

It was UNBELIEVABLE!!! I caught some of the interviews on my way home from work on my XM Radio! Forget Sirius, XM's giving the IRL their VERY OWN channel on XM.....24/7!!! Screw Stern....give me my IndyCar Series anytime. You know that they're doing this because they lose NASCAR to Sirius next year. XM's REALLY going to MARKET the IRL because THEY NEED US as bad as WE NEED THEM!!!! Mutual agreements are ALWAYS the best. Everybody wins!
                      But that's just my opinion!

Saw about an hour of the live show this a.m. MOST of the show, and I mean most of it was from NY or Bristol and only the segments pertaining to the IRL were "live from Homestead".

I was under the impression the show would be broadcast from there. Would have been nice to see the track/paddock in the background while they were taliking other sports.

I agree that it's nice to see Indy Cars getting some press, but the show was mostly the Barry Bonds hour on ESPN2. I didn't realize that Barry Bonds and everything about Barry Bonds and Barry Bonds' life is so important to the average American sports fan. This morning's show plays back in my head kinda like this:

"Now...back to Homestead for another quick live interview with an Indy Car driver who is not Barry Bonds...But stay tuned as we'll have more on Barry Bonds after the commercial. You are watching the "we are obsessed with Barry Bonds at ESPN show" er "Cold Pizza".
Have Attended 22 Indianapolis 500 Mile Races and 22 Other IndyCar Races.

"Tradition and excellence reverberate here. From the Yard of Bricks to the faces on the Borg Warner Trophy, it doesn’t matter where you look, in time or space, there is nothing like the Indianapolis 500".

Man...they've BEEN stepping up so far this year. I've seen ALL KINDS of promotions for the League AND the Race this weekend as well as NUMEROUS interviews with Drivers or Owners on ESPN, ESPNews, Cold Pizza etc....

If we can get them to KEEP this up, we'll do just FINE this year. I hope that they take the data they've got for viewership over the past 10 yrs. (with NO PROMOTION by them whatsoever) and compare them with a year (HOPEFULLY like this where they've BEEN PROMOTING) they actually DO something to let their viewers know about the races coming up and see the differences. I bet they'll be STAGGERING!!!
                            But that's just my opinion!

It's amazing what a few back-stage passes to a KISS show will do ...
