  • The obligatory Indy 500 seating question thread

I might be living dangerously, but rather than commit to low or undesirable 500 tix through the IMS ticket office, I've waited until (near) the last minute to purchase my 500 tickets (again). I guess I'm banking on people dumping their seats due to other commitments.

I've been high in turn 3 the last two years, and have no problems at all with seats up there, but I'd love to be in turn 1 or one of the other “elite” spectator areas on the frontstretch.

    Recommended locations?

Is E stand even a possibility? I see 4 in the 4th row there advertised on eBay currently, but I’d think that would be way too low.

Assuming E is out of the question, what’s the best alternative? SW vista? B stand? J? Within each stand, where are the good sections?

How’s parking at the S end of the track?

The only qualifier on this inquiry is that I want high seats, with a good, unobstructed view in the one of the turns, an excellent passing zone, and preferably of turn 1. Cost is not a problem. I will pay for great seats.

Finally, for those who buy their tickets late, what’s the best way to go about looking for them? Ebay? Some other dedicated website (I recall one for posting ticket requests I used last year, but can’t find it anymore)? Scalpers at the track? Although, I just can’t see going to Indianapolis a couple of days before the 500 without a race ticket and depending on a scalper...

Depends where in E: Sec 23-30 and low bad

Section 15-22 you can only see part of the straightaway a but you are in the apex of the turn so they are hugging the line thus you can see them all the way into the short chute .

Section 7-14 PRIMO SEATS from row A to ZZ

I have said it before, for any one interested I have four tickets near the top of the North Vista (close to turn 4). Section S23 Row LL Seats 5-8. I will sell them as four or two pairs of two. Face value is $85. Track Forum Special of $75 per ticket. Seats are high enough that you will see all of turn 3, turn 4, Norht Short Chute, and some of the front and Back Staights. PM if interested. I am holind off on Ebay to sell these for a little bit!!

Brent, that may have been one of my sites which I discontinued (it was a bit of an experiment). I plan to have something similar on my current site, IndianaRacing.net, but it looks like it's not going to happen until next year.

For tickets from fans, you could look on http://www.indymotorspeedway.com

On the seating guide pages you will see some ads for other places to buy tickets. And of course there is always eBay.

How many do you need? I have two available in the top row of Turn 3, right at the apex! We're also Lazier fans.
No weather forecasts are ever guaranteed, even if confidence level is high. Even a 99% probability will miss 1% of the time. That's the best anybody can do when predicting highly complex events.

I would recommend SW Vista, any double letter row is good. There is no view of the pits action, but you can see the pit exit and that helps to keep track of the pit stops, i.e. who beats who out, plus you will see plenty of passing and Turn 1 is usually where the action is.
IMO, E-stand penthouse is the best seat in the house, but good luck finding those.
I camp at the Brickyard Plaza directly across from the South tunnel. Parking and in/out has been pretty good using 16th street to I-65 downtown.

Thanks for the information--every little bit definitely helps. I wish a resource like this existed back in '81 when I went to Daytona and *didn't* see Richard Petty win his seventh Daytona 500. I never would have bought low seats in the grandstand, that's for sure.

It was! I actually just registered at your website and posted my thoughts on my seats in the NW Vista. I hope others will find their way to your site and do likewise about their own seats. There's some good information there.

Those sound excellent. To be honest, I'm just putting out some feelers at the moment. 2 or 4, I can't be sure yet. It'll probably end up being 2, but I have a couple of "definite maybes" to look out for too. I know I definitely want to have something solidified by mid-April.

Not to mention the video boards cover you for whatever you missed in the pits.

Those video boards are priceless. Now if we could just get the speedway to note how many laps down the backmarkers are, that would be great.

We just got great seats high up in Stand C last week. Try them. High up, you are under cover and the view isn't bad.
