  • Downforce Volunteers Needed!!!!

Well, Race Fans....it's that time of year again. We're about to kick off the BEST IndyCar Season in some time. However, in order to make it the best, we need VOLUNTEERS!!! We need volunteers to work the "Downforce Tents" (Notice the plural). Yes, this year we will be having FOUR tents at each race to better serve our members. The additional tents will help to alleviate the problem of members having to walk all the way around the track from their seats to check in at the ONE tent so they can get points for attending the race. By using four tents we hope to provide more convenient access to the fans. However, that added convenience means some additional obligation from our members. At the "Main Tent" they will be selling "Downforce Schwag". and we'll need maybe 2 people to work that tent because the IRL will supply people for that tent as well.
The other three tents will require more volunteers. Downforce Members AND non-members can ALL work the tent this year if they choose (meaning bring the family) Let me tell you that although it sounds boring....it's anything but, it's actually a BLAST!! And we're not asking you to volunteer and stay at the tent until the cows come home. All we're asking from our volunteers is to give us at least 2 hours. If you choose to come back and work some more after the race, or decide to stay longer than your 2 hours, that's wonderful, if not....we thank you for the 2 hours you gave us in the first place. ALL TENTS WILL BE CLOSED DURING THE RACE.....so you won't miss ANY action on the track.

The tent volunteers mission this year is to allow members to sign in so they receive their points for attending. The volunteers will also pass out small promotional items like; posters, magnets, schedules, etc., and talk to people about the league and signing-up for Downforce, (in all actuality, that's the FUN part). The most strenuous part of working the tent is meeting and getting to know all these other fantastic racing fans and sharing your knowledge with them by answering their questions about Downforce and the IRL. Sounds like it will wear you out huh?
One BIG change this year is that you don't have to be a "Member" of Downforce to work the tent. Obviously, we would PREFER that you are, but perhaps you are a member and the Husband/Wife/Kids aren't...they can work the booth with you. We want this to be a "Family Affair" just like the IndyCar Series is.

Now comes the reward! Booth Volunteers will also be rewarded with 1500 points for working the booth on TOP of their points for attending the race. After each race, there will be a "Post Race" party and all volunteers are invited to attend. My understanding is that there will be refreshments and a "LIVE Band"! The post race party is intended to be a "thank you" from the League and Downforce for volunteering your time. Fun will be included in the "Post Race Party" as well!
If you are interested in volunteering for the Homestead (March 26) or St. Pete (April 2) races, please e-mail us at Downforce Volunteers Thank you in advance for volunteering and if you have any questions, PLEASE don't be afraid to click that link above and we will get you an answer ASAP. It's going to be a great racing season! DROP THE GREEN!!!!

Any "extra points" offered for services rendered?

Yes there is as a matter of fact. Check the How to gain points on the Steering Wheel of the Downforce site.

All volunteers will be rewarded with a special offer from the Indy Racing League and Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Volunteers will receive a FREE Saturday event ticket with the purchase of race day ticket, and volunteers and their families will be thrown a special Post-Race party, held after the Toyota Indy 300 presented by XM, in which the Indy Racing League will provide food, drinks and special guest appearances to thank you for your participation. In addition, volunteers will also receive a Toyota Indy 300 presented by XM event T-Shirt and 1,500 points on your INDY DownForce account.

You've worked so hard on the kidney. Very special -- the kidney has a very special place in the heart. It's an incredible thing. Donald John Trump

                Jetdoc -
Your note states that 2 volunteer hours will qualify for the perks. The email that I received from Downforce stated that I must volunteer 2 hours on Saturday and 2 hours on Sunday to qualify. Since we have a contradiction, may I ask did somebody get something wrong, or have the rules now been changed? Waiting for your reply - and thanks in advance !

Street Teams need to sign up for two hours each day. Jetdoc is not asking for street people he is asking for tent volunteers two different things. I will be at St. Petersburg to answer any questions the street teams may have or direct them to the right people. That is basically what the tent volunteers do and they can also work extra time at the tents, tent volunteers also handle the voting Street Teams won't.

I just edited my post they are not street people they are street teams. The street teams are at the tracks to get the word out and pass out schedules, posters whatever else we have. These are not economically challenged these are Downforce members that want to volunteer.

I figured as much. Just having a little fun at your expense, by playing the part of the "PC Police". Hope no hard feelings, and hoping that you are not "sense of humor challenged". Thanks for clearing up the confusion. Now I know that I want the "tent volunteer" job. I will ask for Saturday morning, and I know I will enjoy the free ticket for Saturday. Cool !
