  • Advertising two weeks out???

I just got a phone call from a friend of mine in Boca Raton, FL. He's a big NASCAR fan, but he's been hearing ads for Homestead that are compelling enough that he called me in the middle of the day to tell me to get a plane ticket and get down there so we could go to Homestead. Too bad airline tix are at spring break rates right now, or I'd probably take him up on the offer.

A little early for this, but does anyone have any info on ticket sales?

Two weeks out is probably as late as you'd want to start. If you're a fan you should have already made plans to set aside the day to go if you're talking about non fans it's not like they're going to see one ad and call to buy tickets. They've got to create some kind of buzz about the event so people decide to set aside the day to go and make the call. It's not like some huge throng of people is going to see the practice coverage in Saturday's paper and get out the road map to find the speedway on Sunday.

I remember seeing commercials for the Daytona 500 during the Rolex 24; kind of the same timeframe and I would imagine a bit more involved in planning for the trip.

It appears the ADS are generating some interest since it got this guy to call his friend about it. D@mned if you do, D@mned if you don't. It seemed like they received decent coverage during the test; now start advertising for the race behind that and it doesn't seem like a bad plan. More power to them.

It may be too late to be making plane reservations there, but remember this:

The greater Miami area (Miami - Ft. Lauderdale - West Palm) has just over 5 million people in it. All of which are at most just over an hours drive from Homestead. Local advertising sounds like a good investement to me. I'd put a bunch of ads on the local Brazilian radio and TV stations down there too. I remember a whole lot of green and yellow in the stands when I was there.

Ah, there's nothing more exciting than science. You get all the fun of sitting still, being quiet, writing down numbers, paying attention... Science has it all.

That's exactly my point...at past races, I haven't seen anything on the radar prior to the week of. Maybe they're getting the idea...
