  • Pook on IRL: retirement opportunity

    From ESPN Chat:

Andy (Boston): Hi Chris. I am glad to see you at the helm of CART and hope you the best of luck. I have a two part question. It's very disappointed to see a lot of quality drivers and teams switching from CART to IRL. What do you plan to do to prevent this from happening and can CART survive given the dwindling of the talent pool? Thanks. -Andy

Chris Pook: (1:15 PM ET ) Well, I'm not sure how much talent is going over to the IRL. I think the guys that consistently qualify on the front part of our grid our with us. The more senior ones who qualify in the back part of the grid -- I think the IRL provides a good retirement opportunity for them.

I would think by now that this administration would have a clue as to what it takes to get the job done. So, Get-er-done!!!!!

Now if RM had a vendetta against CART and got ahold of that, the headline would read: Pook admits that CART drivers have no talent!

Here is the question I sent. Strangely enough, it didn't get answered.

Instead of making condescending smart aleck remarks about the IRL and people who race there (ie. retirement series remark), have you and a few of your outspoken drivers considered talking about the positives of your series instead of denigrating the IRL? It's your kind of arrogance that has turned me away from CART.

I think he was just shooting back at Andretti for his recent comments.

Oh, yeah. Nice stategy. P*** off the only recognizable name you have left in the series....

Wrong, the most recogizable name is going to be on the payroll of the company as a director in short order. Yeah, the F1 and Indy 500 champion his son is not.

                    Pookzler is pathetic.

I'm disappointed that I gave him credit where it obviously isn't due.

Pook seems to be another bad joke in a long line of bad jokes that run CART (into the ground).

I just saw this quote from Pook in a story from Yahoo!

"We want to be a feeder series for Formula One and prove that we have guys with the talent and will to win."

First I'd seen this as a stated policy.

                            Mistawiener,

Guess that is why CART has only 9 cars committed for next year.

That's funny. Mine didn't get answered either. I wanted to know what they would
do if all the cars dropped out at the
                              Fontana 500-miler. Would they checker
the last man standing or would they wait
for cars to be repaired and returned to
                              the track.
