    For Immediate Release

'PIT PASS' TO GIVE VIEWERS EXCLUSIVE LOOK AT INDY RACING

INDIANAPOLIS, Monday, Jan. 21, 2002 - Motorsports fans will enjoy unprecedented, behind-the-scenes access to the speed and strategy of Indy Racing with the debut of "Indy Racing Pit Pass," a new half-hour show that will air on ESPN2.

The first episode of "Indy Racing Pit Pass" will air at 6 p.m. (EST) Jan. 28 on ESPN2. The show will be broadcast monthly on ESPN2 and distributed worldwide by ESPN International.

Produced by IMS Productions and filmed primarily during the 2001 Indy Racing League season, each episode follows one driver and team through the highs and lows of an entire weekend of Indy Racing League competition, providing fans total access to the inner workings of an Indy Racing team.

"This is true human drama," said Buddy McAtee, assistant vice president of broadcast communications and business development for the Indy Racing League. "'Indy Racing Pit Pass' was created to showcase IRL teams, their dedication and their technical expertise. We wanted to give viewers the true feeling of what it's like to be on an Indy Racing team and what it takes to put a car on track every weekend.
"Our whole mission at IMS Productions is to provide an accurate and entertaining historical account of the Indy Racing League, and I think we've done that with 'Indy Racing Pit Pass.' This is going to be a show that will last forever. Twenty years from now, we'll be able to look back and say, 'That's what it took to compete in the Indy Racing League in 2001.'"

Narrated by Indianapolis native and nationally acclaimed voice talent Dave Dugan, the first 12 episodes of Indy Racing 'Pit Pass' will air this season on ESPN2. Fifteen more episodes will be produced in 2002 for broadcast in 2003.

"This is a show that we know will work long term for the benefit of the fans, the teams and the series," McAtee said. "With the growth of the Indy Racing League fostering new drivers, teams and technology, this series has a bright future. We hope that we can make 100 episodes of 'Indy Racing Pit Pass.'"

Sorry 220 - posted this under a separate topic above as I didn't see your post. Thought it would be at the top of the page, as it's a nice off-season development, although I'm disappointed to see that there are already people bashing this new show. I guess the way I think of it, it's one more show that we DIDN'T HAVE, and is not replacing anything. Those complaining that they'd rather have a qualifying show - I would too - but this is once a month, and surely did not take the place of the live, weekly shows. I also like the soft-sell, features-based stuff - fans love to see the inside workings of what goes on the garage (thus, my "Live Updates" section's popularity) and this show will highlight that. Combined with the new IRIPS TV package (yet to be released) whereby they'll show race highlights and profile 1-2 teams, this year the fans will really get to know the behind-the-scenes stuff that goes on with the IRL - all good, in my opinion. Then again, I could be wrong...
