In driver's Education did they show you what a skid felt like? how to correct that skid? teach you how to do a 180? A 360? How about panic stops on wet, or snowy, roads with no ABS, how many did you practice?
Did they teach you if you get passed on the right you are wrong.
Did you know driving 20 mph under the speed limit is just as dangerous as driving 20 mph over the speed limit.
Did they teach you the rear view miror is not there for you to check your make up.
Did they teach you cell phones are great but NOT TO BE USED WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING
My flying instructor told me the most dangerous thing in the World was a student pitot with 10 hours solo time.
They taught you all about traffic signals and signs, how to parallel park but did they reach you how to drive a car?
You now have your drivers license, I hope you will now learn how to drive.
A good driver knows how to drive fast, but more important he knows WHEN to drive fast.
Happy motoring Indy_Girl, it is a lot of fun if it is done right.
No but I did complete the course at Curtis Turner's Driving School at the Charlotte Motor Speedway to learn about the 180's and 360's,
Then a couple years later I made the trip from the top of Pikes Peak to the bottom with Bobby Unser driving my Cougar rental car. Most of the trip was
made on the road but during the trip I learned everything there was to know about how NOT to drive a car.
Another time I made the trip from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to Peru, Indiana with Jud Larson. During the 140 mile round trip Jud taught me many of the finer points of things that could, and couldn't, be done with an automobile on US 31 when it was just a two lane highway.
Then there have been many trips around various race tracks in pace cars with many different drivers, one that stands out is Darel Dieringer taking me around Daytona and showing how simple it was without touching the steering wheel.
And one with Bobby at Eldora --- just after they had watered the track
Of course before I graduated from High School I learned some things you could do in an automobile --- but that is a different story.
