  • A1GP Team USA Indy500 entry?

Didn't I read a while back that Team USA was going to enter a car in the 500 with the same paint scheme they use in A1GP? Has anything more come of this?

I don't care what color they paint the thing as long as Phil Giebler still has the seat.

Is he doing all of the A1 races for the American team?

He's doing/done a few, but I don't think he was in all of them.
One driver's "fuel strategy" is another driver's "speed up or we will park you!"

Scott Speed was in the seat at the start of the season but his Torro Rossi F1 testing duties became a conflict so he relinquished the seat.

It's evident the team behind the USA entry isn't strong. Giebler has qualified poorly in the several races he's done. At the start, though, he starts dutifully picking off cars only to have his car break down. Phil isn't the problem but I doubt he'll be in the seat long enough (A1 is destined to go belly-up IMO) to resolve the matter.

Pessimist, what would the internet be without 'em?

The last two races had terrific attendence and more exciting formula racing than either F1 or CCWS. They have issues but deep pockets as well. Maybe it will go away but hopefully not.

Phil is growing as a driver and his results will come.

Herta is a pretty good driver and he couldn't get that car going any better than Giebler has.

We'll have to give A1GP a couple years. Right now it's dealing with some growing pains. But, the attendance at South Africa and Indonesia was good. So, we'll see. I think what will ultimately help or hurt the series is how well they can recruit the top drivers from every country to do a few races.

As things stand now Herta's back for the two North American races including Laguna, then Phil does the season finale.

And I don't recall it being mentioned in the press release that the 500 car would necessarily carry the same paint scheme.

The paint scheme itself doesn't really bother me, other than it being trite (but the nature of that series makes it desirably so). It's the A1GP chassis I find a bit of an eyesore.

I don't really care what the paint scheme is, I just want to know if they are still planning on making this happen. Do they own a chassis yet?

Team USA principle Rick Weidinger has entered teams before, he could very well still own the chassis.

I'm sure Tony George and others would disagree with that assumption...
