  • Marco testing at Homestead today?

Testing at Homestead-Miami moves to the Indy car side today with IRL rookie of the year candidate Marco Andretti, of Bushkill Township, scheduled to test on a high-banked superspeedway for the first time.

Andretti Green Racing, owned by Marco's father Michael Andretti, has two car haulers on the grounds.

It's expected father and son will drive on the track at the same time and be in two-way communication, allowing for coaching.

I know the whole rookie thing is the excuse, but really, they are taking liberty with the testing rules. They are testing at Homestead in 2 weeks, and I can't see why after testing at Texas, Phoenix, and Indy he would need more testing at a track where they will testing at in two week anyway. He should be able to test at the open test without extra track time. Danica did it last year, as did Enge, Briscoe, and Dana.
"Ninety-two years ago [the Indy 500] was probably like any other race," said 2005 winner Dan Wheldon. "But over time it's just created so many storylines and history for people of our generation that now it's just massive. People value that history and tradition and you just can't take that away."

I really do not understand your post. Are saying that Marco does not need so much testing even when you could count the number of times he has been in an Indycar on one hand? And how is it taking liberty with the rules by using the rules as intended.

Why would Michael be allowed to test?

I read he has zero high banked oval experience, is that correct? Sounds like a good cause for the IRL to bend the rules. Him and his dad need to be in the first 3 rows at Indy to increase the ratings? Time to take the blinders off that blind engine draw just a bit. Slippery slope IRL, slippery slope...

Accusation? I'd say it is more a scenario than an accusation.

Don't know what I'm talking about? I'm a newbie fan certainly, most of my knowledge of IndyCar is from this board, I've read multiple times that private team testing was eliminated to reduce costs and to increase fairness. Is that not correct? Is there some sort of published exception for rookies other than ROP at Indy that I'm not aware of? I tried searching for the testing rules at Indycar.com and didn't find anything relevant. It seems reasonable to let a rookie have more testing time, they just need to formalize the process.

Therein lies the problem... If most of your knowledge is from this board, I would highly recommend reading some of Robin Miller's columns to get a more upbeat analysis on the state of IRL racing.

Cheese and Rice Almighty! AGR gets extra test days because they are running cars in the Pro-Series. How many times does this fool thread have to repeat before it sinks in?

Extra test days are awarded after participation in IPS races, and require the IPS driver behind the wheel for half of the day. AGR hasn't participated in any IPS races yet, nor have their IPS drivers gotten any testing time.

These "Marco Only" test days are NOT their IPS test days. How many times does that have to be repeated before it sinks in?

with IRL rookie of the year candidate Marco Andretti,
That is the part that cracked me up. Pretty deep field of rookies he's up against!
Asked how he’d like to be remembered were he hit by a bus tomorrow, Tracy doesn’t hesitate: “I’m a race-car driver. At the last second, I’d swerve and avoid the bus.”

I just think it seems strange that someone would need to test at track where they'll be testing in two weeks anyway.

No I still root for Bryan Herta at AGR, Ken, I wasn't too high on Dario or Tony last season though.
