  • Paul Page Gone?

Many may get their wish after all.

1-29-2006) - Sources have confirmed that although Marty Reid has offered to work the NHRA events that don't conflict with the Indy Racing League he's scheduled to cover for ESPN/ABC, the Glendora Gang has opted to replace him after Phoenix. Reportedly, the NHRA's desire is to develop continuity in their broadcasts, something Reid couldn't offer with his limited schedule. The leading candidate is said to be Paul Page, a former Indy 500 announcer.

I say we got the best end of that trade (even though its a year after Page was shown the door)

Say what you want about Paul Page's broadcasts - the man loves the sport, and appreciates its history. For many he was (and remains) "the voice of indy car racing."

You can do an awful lot worse than having him in the booth. (Look no further than last year's broadcast booth.)

Well I didn't say he wasn't gonna have to pick up his pace.

Paul Page circa 1977 on radio is much different than Paul Page circa 2005 on TV.

I don't know why as he's been covering the snowmobile circuit for years whether they are at the X games or not...

Oh and BTW... he was good on the radio... but he had more help back then.

Jamie Little was also at the X Games covering freestlye motocross. Like Whosyer said, Page has covered SnoCross for years with Greg Creamer. I think Patrick Carpentier was going to try and qualify for the X Games this year, but I can't remember where I heard that.

I also got to give a plug to JJ Thomas in Snowboarding Superpipe. I used to go to school with him. Great guy, and I can't believe the kind of success he's had (including an Olympic Bronze Medal).

BTW did any of you guys see any of that NASCAR drivers Bobsled challenge that the Bodines put on from Lake Placid Sunday on NBC?

That was cool... however it took some time away from my Rolex watching.

You and I will remember A J Foyt, Parnelli Jones, Mario Andretti as great drivers the same as we remember Paul Page as a great announcer of the Indianapolis 500, others here will be asking, did AJ Foyt race cars?, how soon people forget

those are just the youngin's and the young put so much on appearances. They probably still think he was but figure the cars must have been a lot bigger when he did.

I concur. I like, and miss him in the booth. I miss Bobby Unser, Sam Posey, and Danny Sullivan as well.

Not to mention Sid Collins, with Chuck Marlowe in the pits, Ahern in turn one, etc.
