  • Just Curious About Red Bull...

I have been recently thinking about the current and upcoming teams that Red Bull is a part of. I've noticed in the last couple years that Red Bull has been associated with Toyota in American motorsports. Now I might be totally off-base with this but was the reason for Red Bull backing out at Cheever because of Honda's uproar in the IRL and the reason why Red Bull will be running a team in Nextel Cup in 2007 with the new Toyota Camry all because they some sort of affiliation with Toyota in the U.S.? I just saw a bit of a correlation between the two.

Short answer - maybe. The Toyota Cup deal with Red Bull is a factory-support team on the level of an Evernham/Dodge deal (although this might be more because Team Red Bull doesn't have any infrastructure yet). But remember that Marty Gaunt ran one of Toyota's factory truck teams last year so that might explain the Toyota angle more than any connection between Red Bull and Toyota.

If it were me talking, I would be inclined to say that Toyota's pullout from IRL had nothing to do with Red Bull leaving. But that's not gospel, so don't take it as such.

I agree that Toyota leaving and Red Bull leaving IRL weren't closely related. I think it had more to do with Eddie running the show and the Red Bull folks like having it their way. Look at what they've done with F-1. My question now becomes, will their F-1 teams be working with Toyota F-1 in 07 or later?
