'Back the Track Night' at the Tacoma Dome

What: 'Back the Track Night' at the Tacoma Dome

Who: Kasey Kahne, Greg Biffle, Darrell Waltrip, Sam Hornish Jr., Paul Dana, Alan Bestwick, Curt Cavin, Johnny Rutherford

Where: Tacoma Dome, Tacoma, Washington (Directions to the Tacoma Dome)

When: Thursday, January 19th, 6 pm to 9 pm
Meet some of the hottest drivers from NASCAR and the Indy Racing League, including Kasey Kahne, Greg Biffle, Darrell Waltrip, Johnny Rutherford, Paul Dana and Sam Hornish Jr!

Get their autographs, hear them talk about the upcoming season and feel the excitement of professional auto racing with interactive displays. Plus, exhibits from the LeMay Museum, local short track drivers and their race cars and representative from area Washington race tracks.

The proposed track would create hundreds of new jobs, thousands of tourists coming in from out of state and, best of all, no new taxes! Anyone who's a fan of economic growth in Washington, should be a fan of the Race 2 Washington.

Don't miss 'Back the Track Night' from 6 to 9 pm at the Dome on Thursday, January 19th.

Im there. I heard elsewhere it starts @ 5:00 though.

I have a JR pic Id like to get autographed. My guess is an OW driver will be easy to get near while the Taxi drivers will be mobbed.

Since theres a couple Indy drivers, Id guess they have plans for an IRL race there when its built.

Yeah I believe it will be built.

NASCAR/ISC is pressing hard for this track, and its seems to me its getting some traction.

Out door racing is still a few months away, this should be a nice mid-winter diversion

Well, there is the matter of that little $179 million dollar tax supported bond measure that ISC wants the public to kick in to help build the track.

This line sure sounds familiar: "No new taxes??" Surely you jest.

        Er, "No new taxes??"

While a big time track would be nice you may rest assured it will be over priced and definitely not paid for by those who are promoting this old and well worn theme..

You worry about paying your Oregon State Income Taxes and I'll worry about paying sales tax on my season tickets.

I spent some years in Washington state and sales tax on season tickets does not tell much of the story.

Waste of time. Bunch of ****** Newbies who had no idea who Johnnie Rutherford was.

You needed a ticket to join the herd of autograph seekers. They were all gone 5 minutes after doors opened.

I brought a 1981 500 yearbook with JR on the cover hoping for an autograph.

I watched as Pin heads in the line were swooning over Biffle and Mikey and walking right by Rutherford most totally w/o a clue as to who the old guy on the end was.

Rather a subtle hint as to why major sports are not a big thing in the Northwest.

It's things like this that bring out the retrogrouch in me. I know we need new fans, but there are some serious legends of the sport who just don't get their props.

BTW Kev, do you miss NES? I recently moved to Delaware, so this will be my first season away from "Thunder in the Pines," since it opened as a dirt track in"98.

Retrogrouch... I like that, can I use it? Just rubbed me wrong. This guy is a giant of motorsport & most attendees walked by him like they thought hewas Biffles mgr or something.

Yes I miss NES. Great times there but Im carving a niche out here & felt at home at my new Saturday joint almost immediately

Well you got Us 13 & Potomac to scratch the itch at least. Plus that Micro sprint track in Wilmington

Retrogrouch...I didn't invent the term, but feel free to use it.

My wife wore a plain white T-shirt to Naz in '03 and got a bunch of drivers to sign it. JR was one of them. What a cool guy. I couldn't stop looking at that ring while he was signing.

US 13 is already on my list. Also Middleford in Seaford. They run Mod-Lite(Dwarf Cars) and Micros. I used to run a Dwarf Car at the 1/4 Mile at Bridgeport, who knows maybe I'll get back into it.

Where is Potomac, and what do they run?

Potomac speedway is South of DC in the lower part of Maryland.
I havent been there in 15 years and I wasnt driving so Im not sure exactly wehre it is. I will say they used to run on Firdays and it was tough getting there with the shore traffic. Also theres a bay in your way so you may have to drive a little out of your way to get to a bridge. I assume they still run on Fridays.

Neat little joint. Its far enough south so you get stock cars, a different kind of stock cars, & a low buck class of stock cars

US 13 is worthy of being a weekly haunt. I think its the southern most track to run DIRT style mods weekly. Last time I was there they were still unlimited C.I. motors.
500 cubes was not uncomon. Great surface too. I recall pulling out of there sometimes @ 12:30-1:00 and they still had cars lining up for features.

US13 is easy to find -drive south on Highway 13 . When you hit the Maryland state line, make a u-turn around and look to your left.
