I saw him in action only a few times. Once was at the Springfield mile.
We were sitting low at the end of the front straight, the track was still heavy and AJ was runing his qualifying laps. He pounded down the straight running high and pitched his race car sideways into the corner then jumped on the throttle and threw gobs of mud up into the stands and us as if to say, "you came to see something, well, here's some thing to see".
The man was amazing.
Something worth using my 1000th post for."Moralism is often the first strength of a weak mind"

Happy Birthday A.J.
They mentioned this on PBS's "Morning Edition" program this morning as well"Each day well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well therefore to this one day for it, and it alone, is life"
~ Sanskrit poem attributed to Kalidasa, "Salutation to the Dawn"

A.J. Foyt = I Am Indy!
Happy B-day to one of my heros!"There are two ways to conquer and enslave a nation. One is by the sword. The other is by debt." John Adams 1826

WOW...71 is quite remarkable for someone doing what he did...I only saw his last Indy win in person, but was fortunate to see him drive in stocks and on dirt as well as numerous road and paved ovals...one of my heros growing up."Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster" - Friedrich Nietzsche

To all the young or new race fans: A.J. was the best! Just to watch him strap into a Dirt Car or Sprint Car was one of the greatest thrills of any race fan. From Indy to Springfield to Terre Haute to Salem, he was the best. I turn 50 this winter and he is still my HERO! Happy Birthday A.J.! If they didn't see you race, they don't know what they missed!!"Miss the old days"
