Where does every one stay for the 500?

What do you do in the days, nights, and morning of leading up to the 500?

How do travel to the track?

Where does every one stay for the 500?

I stay with my buddies that i have introduced to the 500 at the Coke lot. We camp out Thursday-Friday-Saturday nights by the little creek.. 2006 will be our 5th straight year doing this..

What do you do in the days, nights, and morning of leading up to the 500?

Drink, people watch, give out beeds to Indiana's finest, visit a gentelmans club right by the speedway, and visit the track and garages during the afternoons.

How do travel to the track?

We pack our SUV up and drive I-70 from Baltimore to Indianapolis.. Takes 10-11hrs with gas stops and food

I stay at my brother's house with the other 85 crazies who come into town for the race from South Carolina, Virginia, California, and Chicago. Well, maybe there's not 85, but there are a lot....

We party at my brother's house and around Indy. And usually make a visit to the track before race day. Lot of margaritas involved. Last year, a new tradition started. I did carb day on Friday and finally made it to my brother's house in a somewhat drunken state around 9:00 pm after partying with the folks from ON Semiconductor in the third turn infield and Camb and Brew. The third turn infield and Camp and Brew were fun last year.

Pack up the Odyssey and head for Indy from Columbus. We used to make the trip from Northern Virginia with a fully packed van with 6 people. Now that was a road trip!

I live in Speedway so stay at home! Nice! As for out of towners, depends, do you have someone opposed to camping out? If not you can stay in the Coca Cola lot right across the street from the track, or in a number of yards around the track in the town of Speedway, just get off 465 and head east on Crawfordsville Rd and you'll see plenty of signs! Best bet is to rent an RV or something, just make sure you know how to use it! (unfortunately, some folks in town for the race were found dead inside a rental RV b/c they didn't vent the generator! YIKES!!! I think it was about 2-3 years ago!) Anyways, Friday you have CARB day, the best day at the track next to race day, that night there is a race at the fairgrounds (one mile flat dirt track with the REAL champ cars) Saturday is the parade downtown, race at IRP that night, or just walk Georgetown road for the best party in the world (I think it's even better than Mardi Gras!). If you need directions let me know!!!

I get to Indy by driving from Va.

In the past I've stayed at various "name" hotels on the Southside, but as the quality has decreased steadily I've stepped it up this year to the Embassy Suites on Vincennes Rd. (A friend works at the Embassy in town and "negotiated" me a good deal).

We get in Friday evening, unfortunately 12-13 hours of driving means we're usually too wore out to get to the Silver Crown show.

Saturday morning is the traditional driver's meeting/museum visit/bus tour, the on to C&B to make a donation to Brian's Wish and visit old friends. We used to go to the "Night Before the 500" @ IRP or the Little 500, but as Pop's no longer a spring chicken, a good night's sleep before the 500 is more important.

                    Since you asked...

Where does every one stay for the 500?

For the past 4 years it's been in the COKE Lot, right at the corner of Camp and Brew. Year prior to that, we stayed at a friend of my brother's.

Preceding 6 years it was at my brother Jimmy D's place off West 62nd right by Zionsville Rd....Then he moved to San Diego and the die was cast for C&B to be thrust upon the world!

What do you do in the days, nights, and morning of leading up to the 500?

See the pictures at this link Tommy D's Friends and Escapades
Every year I like to add something...Last year it was the Last Row Party, which I highly recommend.

How do you travel to the track?

In an RV barely fit for the road (or in the chase vehicle) that transforms into C&B HQ for the duration. We don't leave until Monday after the race, usually at the crack of noon. As always, volunteers are most welcome for the C&B clean-up on the morning after the race...Odd how none have ever shown up!?!?!?

I get to sleep late watching reruns of Indy's gone by, and listening to the WIBC all-night race party.

Up early, and to the track by 8 or 8:30. My daughters and I take a look for our seats and post a jacket or seat cushion there, then back down under the stands to "people-watch for about 2 hours. That is fun....we get a few Pepsi's a couple of corn dogs, and scope the different coolers, shoes, sunglasses etc...if you look, you'll find several common demominators...EVERY family or group has at least one cooler carrier. If the race fan is over 40, 80% of the time, he has a camera around his neck. Under 25, a girl with him.

At 10 bells it's back to the seats to watch the parade, and the Memorial Day festivities.

11 bells, The Greatest Spectacle in Racing. Never fails to impress.

Drive a F350 in case of rain and the return of Indy MUD. Always park south of the track, about 15 minute walk, always easy in, easy out.

Our group meets Saturday afternoon outside the 30th St entrance then park our vehicles behind the school North of the North 40. Some pitch tents, some sleep under the stars, some pass out whereever, some sleep in vehicles.

What do you do in the days, nights, and morning of leading up to the 500?
We come down on Carb Day, stop by Camp & Brew, then head to the fairgrounds for the 100, after which we head back North. On Saturday, load the vehicles and head to the school, where we cook way too much food (ribs, brats, burgers, steak, lobster) drink too much, and then at night head to Camp & Brew to have pole position for the Saturday night craziness. Wake up early Sunday and head into our "headquarters" that someone has set up inside Turn 3. Have breakfast inside the track then we all head to our various locations around 10am after picking the pool.

How do travel to the track?

                            By car, truck, or van.

Past couple of years I have been staying at the Motel 6 about 1.5 miles west of turn 1 off of Crawfordsville Road.

On firday night my preference is to go to the Hulman 100 at the Indy State Fairgrounds

On Saturday Night I prefer the Little 500 @ Anderson speedway, but the Night Before the 500 at IRP isn't bad either.

Of course you can party down at the Track too on Saturday night.

Since I sit in the North Vista, I drive to the neighborhoods just north and west of turn 4. Parking is usually avaialble on the street.
