  • Looking for an IMS photo

One time, I saw a color photo taken @ IMS in the Winter.
It was taken from up in the good seats upstairs in T1.

Kinda looking North. Everything is snow covered, maybe one set of tire tracks going thru pit road.

Not a new photo as the old glass scoring tower was still place. I would guess it was 1980s or 90s vintage.

The picture had a title called "Waiting for Spring" or "Waiting For May"
    something like that.

Saw it in a repair shop waiting room. The owner wouldnt give it to me.

Would love to find a copy for my house.
    anyone know that photo?

If it's a Speedway Photo the Speedway Photo Shop will have it on file, but they won't "give" it to you.

The IMS Xmas card looks like that this year.
If the league is not going to shift their stance on the fees I would imagine all of the ovals would start being replaced by "chamber of commerce financially supported" TV infomercials dressed up like a car race for different city centers across the USA.

I've got that photo and it is awesome! Call IMS at 317-484-6500 and ask for the Photo Shop. I'm sure they will know which photo you want. They charge $10 for an 8 x 10 print.

The last time I was in the photo shop office it was above the museum, but it was so long ago I'm not sure it's still there. Anyway they had an enlarged version of the shot I'm sure you are talking about on the wall, and yes, they sell copies of everything they have on file. If you love Indy and the 500 like I do, you could spend a month there and a rather large fortune as well. It would be a labor of love though.
It's always been about the Indy 500!

Those are the ones I was thinking about. This is my favorite because it shows the depth.

Wouldn't it be a blast to take a few laps in a snowmobile? I wonder if it's ever been done.
Life's a reach, and then you jibe.

With the Hulman George family having a ranch in Wyoming, I expect they have a few snowmobiles, in fact I expect they have no shortage of toys. I used to race oval track snowmobiles, and it was a blast, but taking one into turn one at Indy at full speed might give you the same kind of pucker an IndyCar would.

You might try checking with Ron McQueeny. One of his business cards had an excellant picture looking from turn 1 toward the s/f line with the single set of tire tracks. Good luck!
