I found out this morning that a close co-worker of my mine was killed last night in an accident on the Illinois Tollway. He was doing night-time work ont he pavement when a truck lost control and killed him. He was only 27 years old and was just a truly wonderful kid. He was married to his young wife on Oct. 1 of this year and found out 2 weeks later that they were expecting their first child. It is haunting in that I, and most of my other co-workers, realize that we put our lives in the public's hands everytime we step foot on the pavement and it could just as easily been one of us. I ask that you prayer for this young man's family as they go through this extremely difficult time in what should be a joyous season.
In his memory, please, please, please be attentive and careful when driving through work-zones on our roads and highways. Slow down and be cautious for workers. Remember that we are doing our best to be safe but without you, our effort are all for naught. Rushing through a construction zone may save you a minute or two but the consequences are immeasureable and affect real people. Please remember my co-worker when you approach road construction and slow down so that we might safely return to hug our love ones once again.
