  • IMS sees 237 mph today!!!

    ...well, on my PS2 anyway...

For those of you wondering, this was done with no draft (test session), and all four laps are above 237 in simulated qualifying run.

And no, I didn't spend my whole night working on this...just about 5 runs or so. I'm still messin' with the gears and ride heights...I think a 238 is possible.

Anyone else ever gone any faster in clean air?

Oh, apologies for the crap photo...I was about 10 feet away from the TV and was using the camera on my phone...

I did following with 1989 indy game simulation:
    1 lap: 239,48 mph (Lola/Buick)
    4 laps: 237,46 mph (Lola/Buick)

Let me re-clarify that this was in the PS2 IndyCar Series game...

...if you want to break out the original Indy 500 simulation, I wheeled the Lola/Buick around at 242 in qual trim...

Dang, that looks like Texas. But it is Indy, isn't it?

But did you ever actually win it?

I did, with "crash" on too. Many a night I was at work past 8 racing, only to crash, blow a engine, etc. with just a few laps to go.
IIRC, there wasn't a pit road speed limit.

                    Man, I loved that sim.

Actually if you look at that picture the RF tire is bent hopelessly forward, me thinks the 237 was done at the expense of grip resulting in pushing out to the south chute wall....

Maybe Donald Davidson will know what happened?

I did too. It didn't have the graphics or the sounds that today's games have, but for fun game play, I think it has all of today's Indy 500 games beat hands down. Especially with the game editor, where you could make the opponent cars a little more realistic (getting rid of the cars that were running BY 400 speed, and bumping them up to Quattro speed) and updated the paint schemes and car numbers to the most recent race.

Does anybody know how to run that program on today's PC's? It's just way too slooow on my fairly top end Dell.

Our service manager received a ticket this morning for doing 67 in a 55...on snow...down a big hill...in a Lincoln Town Car (the guy with me at Nashville, Kaaveh).

Yes, if only that engine could have finished a race! I still have that disc, should try and load it sometime.
