  • Hey, Here Comes Another Swindell

Since the first time I watched Sammy Swindell wheel and outlaw sprint car around dirt oval I have been a Swindell fan.

Well I am still a Swindell fan but there are complications crowding the horizon, that kid of Sammy's is going to be whupping up on his old man one of these days.

So far this 16 year old youngster has won 65 races in Sprints, quarter midgets and road race karts. He had a top ten finish in the World of Outlaws feature when he was 15.

Kevin won a sprint car feature at Mobile International in only his second time in a sprint car on pavement. and set aqualifying recod on the half-mile track at more than 122 mph.

He was Rookie of the Race at the Annual Turkey Night Grand Prix this year, driving a midget owned by some guy named Tony Stewart.

Maybe someone should give this kid a look because he has his heart set on being America"s gift to Formula I racing.

If there are any bucks left prehaps he should head for Europe where they train these F-1 pilots and go for it. There seems to be a pathway to F-1 that many of the guys follow and it works for them. At least they get to touch and feel. The rest is up to their performance in the equipment.

After seeing the kid race a Kart, on ESPN's tape from Tunica, Mississippi, from Last years Thanksgiving race on the inside dirt track, I wouldn't want him running my Kart. Seems he was way over his head. Sorry, just my thoughts.

          Hey Littleman,

If a driver gets "over his head" and gets out it he has learned something. If he never gets "over his head" he may never learn anything.

To learn, he first has to have nerve enough, and maybe be dumb enough, to get "over his head".

I saw Foyt in "over his head" many times when he was a young man, and he recovered from being "over his head" many times. I believe he learned something every time.

I had the perfect girl friend, I couldn't have asked for more.
She was deaf and dumb and over sexed and owned a liquor store.

He is a talented kid. I saw him set the track record this summer at Lanier Speedway (3/8 mile asphalt). Way cool.

I have been an advocate of Kevin for quite a while here. Turkey night he finished 11th. Not too bad considering it was his paved midget race ever.

It has been reported here that Everham already has the kid under contract. I don't know how strong those contracts are but it is too bad. I would love to see him in an Indy Car or F-1 car.

Years ago I remember seeing him in the pits when the Outlaws ran Houston.

Sammy came rolling up to the transporter after a few hot laps and this mini-Sammy clone swaggers out of the trailer! Cutest little guy you'd ever seen: tee shirt, jeans, burr haircut, and a red rag hanging out of his back pocket.

He knew exactly what his job was, grabbed the scraper and started cleaning mud off the front wing.

I thought to my self, "Some day......".

One race, yep, over his head.

I would much rather see the kid run THE 500 rather then F-1. Let's get Sam Schmidt to get him in a Lights car, along side Gregg and let's see what the kid really has.

If Swindell goes, then Kinser will have to go to beat him all the time
