Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials confirmed that the three-week streamlined format introduced for last year’s edition of the event will carry on for next season’s running of the 90th Indianapolis 500.

Opening day for the ‘06 500 will be at May 7, three Sundays before the race on May 28.

“Changes that we introduced to the 2005 schedule helped to create one
of the most memorable months of May in Indianapolis Motor Speedway
history,” claimed IMS president Joie Chitwood. “Fans and competitors were
very enthusiastic about the new format, so it makes sense to maintain a
similar schedule for 2006 as we celebrate the 90th running of the
    500-Mile Race.”

Chief among the changes introduced for ’05 is the four-day qualifying format that produces bumping on each day. Pole Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 13, with Second Day Qualifying on Sunday, May 14, Third Day Qualifying on Saturday, May 20 and Bump Day Qualifying on Sunday, May 21.

Tickets for the 90th Indianapolis 500 will go on sale to the general

Yes, but I will be taking a sleeping bag for next year. Being a Florida boy, I thought a jacket and a blanket was enough for spending the night before the race there. I froze my @@'s off. Learned my lesson. Hope those same two guys who yelled threats at each other, at the top of their lungs for 15 minutes, at around 3 AM don't come back  .

I was hoping for 1:00 to 7:00 since Indiana is going to DST and leaving GOMER time behind . It would give a chance for the "working guy" to see a couple of hours practice. Maybe increase intrest? A little. A lot. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE EXTRA HOUR OF SUNLIGHT!

Dinner time at Indy - what a show to see.

I'm very happy to see the return of "bumping" each day. IMS cracked a long drive over the center field fence with that one. If they could just get even 34 or 35 real entries, the intensity would be insane.

...but I am working on a "work from Indinapolis" arrangement for the month of May!
