It's good to be a test driver.

"Ninety-two years ago [the Indy 500] was probably like any other race," said 2005 winner Dan Wheldon. "But over time it's just created so many storylines and history for people of our generation that now it's just massive. People value that history and tradition and you just can't take that away."

That would suck if it turns out that way - Dan is by far my favourite driver in the series. I'd have preferred him to go to Chip than to leave for F1 - especially if he's going to leave to be a test driver; those roles rarely translate into a decent competitive ride, as you're just sitting there out of the public eye until the Next Big Thing comes along and pips you for a ride.

It's believed to be with Frank Williams, whose London-based team would have its first British driver since 1996 world champion Damon Hill.
Since when did Jenson Button lose his british nationality?

Wow... I guess we really know how much Indy means to Dan and how sincere he was about how great the IRL is and how F1 is for girls. Good riddance Dan - I never bought into your BS.

                  Good for Dan.

If it translates to a full ride, it's bound to change some folks' opinions on more than one topic, too

                  We'll see.

Asked if he was headed for Williams, the 26-year-old native of Emberton, England replied: "That's not true."

Then, he added: "But you're on the right track."
hmmmm, read into that one folks.......

Well, it certainly changed yours. You frequently spouted off about CART drivers going to formula 1 and how bad that was for the series. Nevermind prior to the split how rare it actually was. Now, you have no problem with the current 500 winner and champ leaving for a mere testing role? Really, is there anything that the IRL can do or occurs as a result of the IRL that you will ever see a the slightest negative light?

                        I did?

I was a pretty good fan of Newtown - picked him to win ROY and the 500. I enjoyed his success in F1 and his return to Indy for the USGP.

I do think it's too bad that Indy Car lacks the popularity to attract and keep more talent and teams. The good news is, this year saw increases across the board in ratings and attendance, and I'm looking forward to more this spring.

Of course I have criticized the IRL, primarily for safety issues. During that time, the SAFER barrier has been deployed, and the cars design improved so that the past two years saw a remarkable decline in the injury rate.

Don't be so sensitive, Badge - Dan hasn't made it yet

this is what you get when your series is full of foreign drivers.. when they succeed they want to get to F1.. That is why we need American drivers..

So that they can have success in the IRL and go to NASCAR?
