I think there's a difference between the greatest driver at the Indy 500 and the greatest driver OF the Indy 500.

The former would be Clark. If you restricted it to drivers who focussed on Indy, it would be Foyt. The latter would be Vukovich. Indy was basically his racing raison d'etre and he would have had 4 wins on the trot barring things out of his control.

Was initially peeved that my "fanboy favorite" Eddie Cheever was a 16th seed behind non-winners like Tony Stewart, but got over it quickly. Glad he's in the top 64, thank you for a great TrackForum thread.

Billy Arnold was the greatest racer at the Indy 500 but was not the greatest driver.

Wow I missed that Cheever is a 16 seed.

By the way what happened to the play-in games?

I hate the play-in games. Since we didn't have automatic births, didn't think they'd fit here.

                        I’m just messing with you.

I am enjoying matching up your seedings with my rankings.

Thanks for putting in the work on this!

I have to ask, how in the heck did Tony Stewart, with a best finish of 5th, make the bracket? That one is a head scratcher.

He led 122 of the 700 laps he ran at the speedway, or around 17.5% of the laps he ran at the track. The only drivers to lead more laps and have a comparable percentage were Michael Andretti, Jimmy Snyder and Rex Mays.

                              AJ

Just put him in the winners circle and skip the pleasantries.

Although, it is fun to play!

Hard decision for me.....Mears or Vukovich....but Unser Sr and AJ....and, while I don't consider him the greatest, my guy Helio is about 1/2 of a second from being a SIX time winner....MAN, it's hard to pick just ONE dude....just goes to show that we've all seen A LOT of GREATNESS at 16th and Georgetown!!!
