  • Gateway as seen from the Sofa Terrace seats

    First IRL race I dozed thru the middle of this season. Think they spoiled me with the others this year
    WAs it just me or does Gateway sorta look like Phoenix from turn 4 down into turn 1 & 2?
    Even has the suites above turn 1.

    Dozed through?

    I'll keep my comments to myself.

        I commented how much the two tracks looked the same.

        Just a few minor differences:

        Landfills /= Mountains
        Mile 1/4 /= Mile
        Paperclip /= trioval (backstraight)
        Turn 1-2 Stand = Bobby Allison Stands
        Front Straight Stands = Same
        Arch = Run in (M)arch
        Tight Groove = Tight Groove
        Located in Styx = Located in Styx
        Drivers Track = Drivers Track
        Sunburnt = Sunburnt :mad: :mad:

        They ARE eerily similar.

        What irks me (maybe its too soon for the truth), DW was a 16-oval WIN specialist, yet the vast majority those boohooing for him, hardcarders & fans, alike are the same ones trying to kill anything with more than 9 deg banking & 4 corners, where Dan ultimately made his home...

              LOL

              wait until you've experienced Gateway under the "proper" conditions Gator. The first years CART ran there they raced the day before the 500. Combine a rainy May with a hot and humid day and you will have no problem convincing others of the contents of that hill across the street..

                In fact, the race was better than I expected.

                  nope, sometimes passes must be earned and the driver has to actually operate the vehicle. The thrills shows are fun but the short tracks seperate the men from the boys.

                    I like that the IRL has both types of tracks. Sometimes I want to see pure horsepower. But not always.

                        hey 'bird -- I thought this year was a big improvement over last year, racing wise. Not the "go fast, stop, go fast" deal as much.

                        your thoughts?

                        oh, and sure was glad for the breeze. especially one blowing away from the "mountain"

                          Today's race was one of the best - if not the best - for the IRL this year, imo..for the reasons 'bird gave.

                          Just my opinion, but I'll take a 'drivers' circuit any day over a 'hp' track...no matter who's sanctioning it.

                          But, as always, I watch everybody's everything.

                            Personally i hate the single file follow the leader one guy blows everyone else away races.

                            The racing wasnt bad for a short track, but
                            it aint no fun like Kentucky.

                            Earn passes?? I guess those passes at Texas arnt earned huh
