  • Teams without Backup Cars?

It seems odd that PDM packed up after Tyce crashed. Don't they have a backup car?

I expect a team that has no business competing like Zali to dissapear after a crash, but it seems odd that a team that was accepted into the Leader's Circle doesn't have a backup car.

Are other teams don't have backup cars?

It also makes me wonder what Penske thinks about this sort of thing. In the latest RACER, Tim Cindric says:
If it's just a matter of making sure everybody is able to participate, that's not going to bring the series to the next level at which it needs to be. Obviously, our team wants to compete in a series that is working to achieve the highest level possible. I would think that's what the sponsors would want, too -- to be part of a series that's growing each year in terms of credibility, viewership and quality of participants. At the point at which that stagnates, then maybe it's not going where it should go.

I would say that a team that could not bring a race-ready backup to the track shouldn't be on LC. JMO...

For the first time in a little while, I couldn't agree more.

Makes you wonder about the criteria that they set up. I remember that funding, staffing, and equipment were supposed to be part of it.

Teams that have two cars might not want to chance trashing both of them before Indy - especially since the Dallara chassis are supposedly in short supply.
I'm from a place called the internet. Nothing disturbs me.

Then, why did they have Tyce Carlson in the car? Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't he crashed just about every time he's ever climbed in an Indy car.

He spun once this morning and didn't hit any thing. Six minutes later, he went out and hammered the wall in exactly the same spot. Doh!

Oops! Sorry TD you missed the opening lines of that quote. Since that line from Tim Cindric is perfect for a thread like this I'll add them in for ya.

Funny how words taken out of context can be construed to mean just about anything.

hwc, I posted something about Tyce crashing once, wondering why a team would put him in a car? One of Tyce's friends answered that another driver from the Midgets had crashed more often. I couldn't verify that compleatly, but they were close, and it was a lot of crashes! Many here wouldn't want to know who it was.

There's two months and 3 races (including Phoenix) until Indy. If you're that concerned about damaging equipment prior to Indy, don't race until then.
