OT - Our BS pales...

Eighth grader at a local middle school met with her friends in the school parking lot this morning...gave them some of her belongings...pulled out a gun and shot herself in the head...critical condition...

I just read that the World Health Organization estimated that a person commits suicide every 40 seconds.

Statistics for Marion County (Indpls.) indicate, however, that suicide is still fairly rare among females.

That's TERRIBLE!!

A friend of mine's 16 year old son committed suicide over the affections of a girl. It's so tragic that something is so important at that age to take such a permanent solution.

I'm 16 and I have never felt so bad over something that I thought I had to end it all. I just don't understand it. Three people at my school have died this year, one is from suicide.

Female Suicides are usually at a lower number than men but suicide attempts for females are quite high. Men tend to have better "success" (for lack of a better word) with their suicide plans.

Terrible day - for the girl, her family and her friends. I hope she makes it though.

Permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Also a chicken-bleep way of dealing with life's difficulties.

I had two buddies commit suicide. One when I was in high school, the other when I was in college.

My sadness was trumped by my anger. Still is.

Short of being sent to prison for life or a terminal illness, there really isn't any reason to off oneself.

But... these stupid kids have no clue that the problems they think are HUGE are small in the grand scheme of things.

Hey kids, if things are REALLY that bad, join the peace corps. Go live in Botswana for a couple years. Nothing is that bad...

People seem to kill themselves over 3 things:

LOVE
MONEY
FRIENDS

And generally it is the lack of one of the above.

I find it interesting that as I age, I find I NEED those items less and less to feel good about myself.

I can live without a girlfriend (though I really like the current applicant for the title of Mrs. Step33T).

Money is a necessary evil, but I'm never as broke as I think I am. Not being able to go an yet another trip, or not being able to hit the bars to burn through a wad of cash does not constitute broke. I used to believe that, but I'm getting little brighter as I age. And even when my checking acct is has VERY small nummbers in front of the decimal, I can still eat and that's the only important thing.

And I seem to get along better with fewer friends these days. Life is so much easier just being yourself and not worrying about being popular. Geez, can you imagine being popular and having the DANG PHONE ringing all the time. To heck with that. In High School, people get distraught if the phone doesn't ring, now I REALLY enjoy the peace and quiet.
