• Not To Flame, But...

Will CART actually even be around next year?

If its true that Haas is bringing two cars...Ganassi, three maybe four...Mikey Andretti is coming...

One, how will CART actually have enough cars to put on a show and two, even if they can get 18 cars...who is it going to be?

I'm really wondering if they are going to be around next year
"...American open-wheel racing is based around the most famous oval track in the world -- the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. So how in the world does it make sense to center the majority of the IndyCar Series on street courses, road courses and foreign events?..." Terry Blount, ESPN

If Haas is coming, you know the near-future is looking grim for CART.

Of course they'll be around, and around and around the IRL ovals

If Trans-Am has been able to survive this long through all of the SCCA's screw ups, then I'd say that CART will most definately be around next year. The quality of cars may drop a little but Coyne and Arciero are both going to reenter the series plus Forsythe and Herdez will be adding cars. Its still not concrete that Ganassi and Andretti will fully pull out. Andretti still has to hear from Kool who most likely will legally have to stay in CART or get out of the sport all together.

when Pook guarantees 18 cars he's not jokin', even if it means subsidizing half the field. He will pay owners to fill the field.

Last I heard Kool wanted to go to the IRL LAST YEAR and Barry begged them to stay. I've heard they weren't happy about missing out on the Indy 500 and I've heard their insistence on going to the IRL is why Barry Green sold out.

I have no high-placed source on this one so I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just asking if the direction has changed or if there's an article somewhere talking about it.

hey,
It didn't hurt CART any when Penske went South and TCGRbought out Sabates. At least the IRL is OW racing. Just what these guys know.

So the engine mfgrs want to give their $$$ to guys they know can win. What's the big deal. Chips runs NASCAR, CART, and the IRL.

As for Haas, that legendary IRL hater, what better way for him to work his magic than to suck up some free engines for his new IRl team that won;t got to one of the IRL loyalists.

Seems some folks missed the fact that the split has heated up in the last couple of months. Every free engine deal that a CART team sucks up is one that an IRL team won't have. EddieC puts a brave face on it in his ESPN piece, but no one's throwing $$$ at him to be a Toyotafactory team.

Nope, if Pook gets 18 cars CART's going to be here for a long time to come. By the time folks wake up all the top end of the IRL will be CART and ex-CART teams. Heck, once Penske realizes that he hasn't killed CART, maybe he'll run a CART team too, just like Mo,Carl, and Chip.

I edited my post to what I meant rather than what I wrote. I just don't see how Kool can go to the IRL. BAT is already locked into CART for 2003 with Player's. The tobacco settlement won't let them be in both series. BAR can't even have logos on their car for the USGP.

What are you talking about, "Michael still has to hear from Kool who most likely wants to stay in CART"...

Green got down on his knees and begged Kool to let him do one more season in CART when Kool wanted to go IRL for 2002! It's not Team Green who wanted to go to the IRL it's their sponsor

And what happened when Pook promised that CART wouldn't fall below 20 cars this season?

CART is toast, I live in the Tampa Bay area and they haven't even started selling tickets for the CART race scheduled for Feb. 2003. Well at least there has been no promotion for selling any. And what has been in the papers and on the local TV stations is how members of the City Council are fighting the city having to spend any funds what so ever to host this race.

IMO St. Pete will be cancelled due to lack community support and then when 8 or so cars show up for the next race the season will be cancelled...

Any word on who CART plans to pay to put them on TV next season?

Yeh, I didn't think so.

So Haas is making himself look like a hypocrite hoping to kill off Foyt's team, eh? You're misinformed, sif. That's all I can say right now.

Again, sif, you're guessing. And you don't have all the information. Believe me.

Nope, if Pook gets 18 cars CART's going to be here for a long time to come.
Now here we can agree. But then again, the whole point of this thread is "Will CART get the 18 cars?" Your use of the word "if" is interesting.

By the time folks wake up all the top end of the IRL will be CART and ex-CART teams. Heck, once Penske realizes that he hasn't killed CART, maybe he'll run a CART team too, just like Mo,Carl, and Chip.
Again you assume you know what Mo, Carl & Chip are going to do. So when any or all of these three announce they will be IRL-only in 2003, I'm certain you'll be posting your "I was wrong" thread. After all, you've been a stand-up guy in the past and I wouldn't expect anything less from you.

I'll be watching for that thread. . .
