It's nice to see another engine builder take part.I'm very curious to see if their Chevrolets are competitive with Speedways,Ilmors etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the US and UK branches of McLaren get spun off as separate entities many years ago?

Nevertheless, it is a welcome addition to the IRL.

Yep. Different companies for some time now.

McLaren US has been the engine developer for the Cadillac LeMans program and has done some research and development work for Ford in the normally aspirated areas as well. This is more than just an engine deal for Blair... they get access to all of McLaren US' expertise, facilities, and personnel.

Blair... McLaren engines... Alex Barron... Give this outfit some test time, and this might be a very interesting new team.

Wow I feel blindsided! McLaren USA?!?!
                Where are they located?
                Website?
                What exactly have they done?
How long have they been here?

Arciero Blair were the only CART tea,m last year to try the Ilmor (McLaren) Phoenix engine!

                  Great scoop for the team!

I agree with Racemind. This team was very much of an overachiever in CART last year and Alex Barron has deserved a good shot for quite a while. Combine all that with a factory engine deal and it could be very interesting indeed.

Ilmor is not the same company as McLaren. Ilmore is located in Plymouth, MI and I think McLaren is in Livonia.

Ilmor is owned my Illien (sp?), the family of Morgan, Penske, and DaimlerChrysler. McLaren has their own shop.

Great News. The more companies involved, the better for the sport as a whole.

I know Jack Rousch is also based out of Livonia, am I crazy or did I hear about him and McLaren doing some work together?

McLaren has been doing development work for GM for years. They did work on the first Turbo Indy Buick V6. I would suspect these will be GM spec engines.
"IRL" ... what IS that anyway?
