What? All the guys who said Eddie Cheever never won anything are sure silent today, aren't they? Yep. The facts sure can kill off a good thread about degrading a fine champion.

Eddie Cheever has won more Indianapolis 500s and world championship events than Michael Andretti, Paul tracy, or anyone currently in cart.

Eddie cheever is a ringmeister, and honor previously bestowed on only the finest champions the sport has ever seen. He is listed alongside Juan Manuel Fangio, Jackie Ickx and Jackie Stewart. His name amoung the winners goes alongside Jo siffert, Brian Redman, Vic elford.

Eddie Cheever detractors: you don't know jack.

      OK, you've gone too far.

You can't compare the modern & sterile Nurburgring to the Nordschleife.

Look, unless Cheever won a race at the Nordschleife, he's not listed alongside any of those folks.

6k spectators. I thought road racing was popular in Europe
We flipped our finger to the King of England
Stole our country from the Indians
With god on our side and guns in our hands
We took it for our own!

It's the nurburgring. He also won at the Norisring, a facility that has stood since before WW II.

The current N.ring doesn't do much for me either, but cheever won on one of the great wersions. It was still a world championship event against some of the best drivers in the world.

Eddie Cheever has won more world championship events and Indianapolis 500s than the entire cart grid combined. Doo Dah!

I'd love to see the current F1 grid take on the Nordschliefe in F1 cars.

My bet is, a good portion of them would run away screaming - or park it in the pits after the first lap like Alain Prost did at Adelaide one fine day in 1989...

Who he beat isn't my point.

Where he beat them is my point.

You can't compare the two circuits. The only thing they share is a name.

Now, if he had the cojones to take his Jag out on the Nordschleife - like Derek Bell, I believe, did with a Porsche - then I might be inclined to agree with you.

But Cheever ain't no "Ring Master". To suggest Cheever is one is an insult to anyone who ever raced on the Nordschleife.

So you must not think much of "Schumi" either.

I guess you missed it when he won in the BMW, didn't you?

                    Schumi's a great driver. But he's not a Ringmeister.

Unless he's won a race at the full Nordschliefe, in which case he is.

We're not talking about "great" vs. "non-great" drivers here. We're talking about Ringmeisters vs. non-Ringmeisters.

I didn't claim he was better than Fangio, did I? And neither had Michael, to his credit....

Spa, at least, has a few corners left from the old circuit. Sure, Masta would separate the men from the boys in modern F1 machinery, but you can't exactly have cars whacking houses alongside the circuit.

The modern Nurburgring has none. They just tore down the pits and used the same main straightaway.

                      No Flugplatz. No Karussell. Nothing.

why not? They hit concrete walls.

It's considered best practice to have concrete walls that aren't at a 90 degree angle to oncoming cars.

The whole deceleration thing, ya know.

This seems to be a rather vain attempt to prop up the driving history of a rather un-historic driver.
