OT - BCS Debacle

I'm just curious to get TF'ers opinions on
the BCS debacle. I really can't believe
what I have seen this week in college
football. Not only is USC, LSU, and OU
put in an untenable position, but a team
like Northern Illinois (whom beat Maryland
and Alabama) and goes 10-2 is snubbed
for a bowl game for teams that are barely
.500.

I know that is has nothing to do with the
IRL, but I figure this forum has the best
shot at getting a large number of people
to voice an opinion - plus it is the off-season and
there hasn't been much IRL news lately.

So, if the moderators will kindly allow it,
what would you do to fix the BCS?

the BCS is crud.

the only way to fix the bcs is to kill it. you gotta have a play off. the problem is that there is soooo much money at stake for the schools. they arent willing to lose it, just to make college football more commercial. plus, the BCS snafu is great fodder for morning radio and the sports page. great publicity.

however, i do get tired of teams like northern illinois and tcu complaining.

you want to play in a major bowl? well, join a major conference and see how you do against the big boys every weekend.


10-2 means nothing when you have zero strngth of schedule.

The only good that can come of this is OU and LSU playing to a 0-0 tie and USC absolutley dominates the Rose Bowl only to lose the championship to the computers.

i'm sure the bcs will be readdressed in the off season because it's broke.

Can anybody even explain how the BCS rankings work? People will never believe its results if they don't have any idea where they come from.

Don't get me started on the BCS. :mad:

I volunteer in the athletic dept. at Sacramento State where we play Div. I-AA football, which is the only true Div. I football championship.

The BCS kind of reminds me of the IRL/C^RT split where the non-BCS schools are the IRL and the BCS schools is C^RT.

Those schools who are in the BCS are nothing but a bunch of greedy you know whats.

But, hey, what do I know, that my school plays for a national championship that is decided on the field throughout the course of the regular season and then conducts a 16-team national championship.

The bowls are a tradition, which I understand, but, it is a tradition that has 1910 thinking, which is when the bowls really got started. Time for Div. I-A to come into the present, get rid of the bowls, and remember that college athletics is not about profit-making, but providing an enhancement to one's academic experience.

In general I agree with you, but every team
can't be in the Big12, Big10, Pac10, SEC,
etc. And N Illinois definitely did everything
they could to put good football teams on
their non-conference schedule. So I
believe they have a legit gripe this year
(and who would have known Alabama
would have a 4-9 year!)

USC is playing for the National Championship. The BCS failed, USC wins, they win the AP trophy and the OU-LSU winner is the tainted BSC champion.

I don't see a problem here really.



What does this have to do with the IRL. Well let's just see here - it must be one Jack Arute. Now the CARTisans will tell us he is only a cheerleader and not a sideline reporter, buy hey there are still fans of the long extinct Raphus cucullatus (Dodo bird), which even has several websites dedicated to it.
