New SC Formula in the works?

Looks like it'll still be FE, but at least we won't see any more embarrassing cancellations like we saw at Nashville (?) a couple of years ago.
Oh, well, at least it's a little push in the direction of seeing Dave Steele go wheel-to-wheel with Tony Kanaan."I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy, as cause for withdrawing from a friend." - Thomas Jefferson
RIP, Dan. You will always be one of my heroes.

>>>USAC has commissioned Riley and Scott Engineering to develop a prototype chassis, which would be a derivative of the existing pavement Silver Crown chassis. Current chassis constructors will be advised and consulted in the development and rules changes will be developed for their use. The parameter of the new chassis will utilize as many existing components as possible while stressing additional safety standards and continuing to recognize that the current owner/mechanic function remains very "user friendly." The new chassis design will maintain the conventional front engine position, a tube frame and solid axles. The return on investment from racing in these events is not expected to change.<<<a bad day at the race track beats a good day at work

so if you are looking at making changes why not explore moving the engine to the back?If the league is not going to shift their stance on the fees I would imagine all of the ovals would start being replaced by "chamber of commerce financially supported" TV infomercials dressed up like a car race for different city centers across the USA.

You can always rule it out later.
...I understand your point and agree.
However, it could also be argued that why mess with an already winning formula. Afterall, the current formula seems perfect for moving on to NASCAR which is the series of choice and likely destination for most of the USAC-ers these days.a bad day at the race track beats a good day at work

The new SC formula represents an actual, culturally compatible top rung for the OW oval ladder. It would satisfy the need for a top tier for the short trackers to aspire to. No more "Road to Indy", or "Road to Daytona". They will finally have their own road. They can be king of their own hill.
With the current weakened state of the Indy 500, they would be able to claim their rightful place as the true top level of OW oval racing, and the majority of oval racing fans would readily buy into it. By the time Indy finally gets back up to strength, USAC will have had enough time to build something that could stand by itself.
I could envision a few years down the road, USAC has 15-20 races on 1-mile and bigger tracks, with a triple crown of 500-milers as the big prize. USAC guys will no longer need to worry about Indy--they will have their own brass ring to reach for. The IRL would then be free to nestle itself into the top of the RR ladder and become CART II, since it has always been a de facto part of the RR culture anyway. By that time, all but the most hardened 7g'ers will have come around. Almost everybody will be happy again.
TF might even have a "Gold Crown" forum.Definition of support series: A series that needs the support of the headliner class to draw a crowd.
