  • Did you hear what Bernie wanted?

According to Donald Davidson on WIBC postrace show, B.E. wanted TG to "move" the 500 to September to allow F1 to race in the US then Canada without having to go back across the pond. TG stood his ground! Sept or take a hike! Bernie has no understanding about INDY.

I think B.E. just overestimated the value of his product to an American audience....

I think they are learning. Did you hear how nice all of the drivers (but one) were and the number of times that they noted that if F1 couldn't succeed at Indy, then it couldn't succeed in the U.S. They are concerned about the dropoff in attendance.

According to Donald Davidson The U.S.G.P. is still the highest attendance in F1 all season.

B.E. could always move his US Grand Prix back to Phoenix in the middle of May...

Why would Monte Carlo want to move dates anymore than Indy would?

I don't buy this maybe something was said in jest, but I can't believe that Bernie would be stupid enough to think that had a chance.

And I can't imagine Tony's reaction being anything but a chuckle or two, followed by a signal to the Barkeep that it was time to cut Bernie off.

After today's race, if anyone from the U.S. shows up next year, it will be very few.

I feel fortunate to have witnessed the 1962 US GP at WG and partake of F1 before it turned into the grotesque corporate being it now has become. Driving on a lark in the electrically challenged and cantankerous old bug-eyed Sprite through the night, from BOSTON, green turtle-neck and mandatory corduroy jacket and tam, to stand bleary eyyed, mired in the mud, while John Surtees, Jimmy Clark, Jack Brabham, and Sterling Moss screamed by with no more than twenty feet and a berm separating us.

There are fans of the pure engineering exercise that is F1. It is good that there is a major venue where those fans can go see the series.

Just because I am not a fan doesn't mean I begrudge F1 fans their enjoyment.

Went to the F-1 exhibition yesterday. It will be the last time. In my humble opinion, F-1 made a mockery of the sacred ground that they were given the privelege to stage an event on. Some Drivers have taken shots at the IRL and the Indy 500 as well. Enough. Bernie, take your traveling circus back across the pond. You had your chance to win some fans in the US, but you lost a lot yesterday. If there is a 2003 USGP at Indy, 80,000 will be a good crowd. Now I know why there was no USGP for years.

Yeah, that circuit is a real challenge.

Since were throwing around insults...guess what the drivers call the slow corners in the infield at the 'sacred ground of racing'.

I buy tickets for all three races at IMS... this past summer I decided that I was no longer interested in the Brickyard 400 so I gave my son's ticket and my ticket to my niece and her new husband but had to miss the USGP because my son had a Mtn Bike race and the late September date means that we have to fly up just for the weekend which is a bummer since...

Well who can eat all the White Castles, Breaded Pork Tenderloins and Long's Doughnuts to hold them off until Christmas (our next trip home) in just a weekend?!?

Despite the contrived finish yesterday, I've come away from the 3d USGP as infatuated with F1 as I've ever been. The on-track competition may not be as close as other forms we're more accustomed to, but just experiencing those cars in person is truly awe-inspiring.

I agree with you. Actually, the racing amongst the Jaguar, Sauber, Renault type teams was very good. It was cool to see Webber hanging in with De le Rosa and Irvine for a while.

Apparently Derek Daly had a conversation with Ecclestone, where Bernie acknowledged there is a problem. I guess Ferarri brought 12 engines (two per day per car) with them. Bernie says he wants to rip out the electronics, change the tire rule and limit engines. Since he runs the place, he'll probably get what he wants.
