    From Robin...

    A sample:
Open wheel racing on superspeedways, specifically the Indy Racing League brand, has become a ticking time bomb for the paying customers and that's totally unacceptable for fans to be at such high risk.

True, nothing has happened since 1998 when flying debris from crashes killed three spectators at an IRL race in Charlotte and three more fans at a CART race in Michigan.

However, luck and timing may be the only things preventing more calamity this year in the all-oval IRL.

This guy has such a total lack of class. Pardon me if I don't lower myself to read his dribble.

Renna was a nice guy...a smart guy... and he knew what he was doing. I hope the cars are made safer... but I also hope Robin Miller realizes that people who push their openions on people not ready to deal with them yet, then things are worse off than they are not said a'tall. Of course, anyone who still considers Miller a journelist is full of poop anyway.

He goes on to make the argument that IndyCars needs to be slowed down about 40 mph -- to NASCAR speeds. In all honesty, I'm having difficulty arguing very much with that.

I think Robin accepts that. He's arguing about fan safety.

I don't know if political is the word. He had equal concern for CART at Fontana. I think "Alarmist" is a more appropriate word.

Robin likely won't be the last reporter raising these questions either, although he'll probably be the most dramatic in doing so. The IRL is in for a storm from the news media.

Sadly, how they weather that storm will probably dictate the future success of the series more than any other factor. The last thing the IRL needs is for these questions to be raised in local media the week before each and every race of the 2004 season.

That means IMS needs to be both progressive and open in their investigation of this season's incidents. Even if they think they're all a fluke, they need to treat them as an epidemic.

A good first step would be a public statement from Tony George that the series is concerned about cars getting airborne, that they're doing research to fix it, and are committed to finding a solution prior to the 2004 season.

I've heard that the IRL is working on a new undertray and this work started prior to the Brack and Renna incidents. If I've heard this, Robin should have as well.

                Thanks Wilke,

It paints a picture of the man doesn't it.

Miller - One who grinds for a living.

Makes me wonder if Robin selected the Sir Name ala Hollywood style, or if it just appropriate.

Ahhh, Mr. Wilke, but that wouldn't fit the transparent, hostile, childish agenda Miller has carved for himself.

I really have begun feeling sorry for that irrelevant clown.

                    Yes,

A major undertray change was being talked about PRIOR to the Texas 2 race.

Wrong. All he is doing is what he has done for 8 years, hammer against all things associated with the IRL.

"Alarmist" seems to be the right word. Usually, I don't have much use for Miller but this piece seems reasonably even handed. Whether one agrees with his solutions to the problem is another question but it is certain that nothing will happen until everyone acknowledges that there is a problem.

Why do we consistently have to discuss what Robin Miller says? I'm looking for a reason to leave this thread open.
