  • What can we say?

I know that everyone is still in mourning today. And I fully realize that in that process we begin to ask a whole lot of questions. And what better place to grieve with others than TrackForum? I would like us to be able to share our questions and our concerns with one another.

However, we are also under the bounds of respect and dignity here. There are certain things which probably shouldn't be talked about yet. Like a replacement driver. Or injuries. It's not the time.

Can we talk about safety improvements and concern? Yes, I think we can. Can we trash the whole league or car design? Nope. It's going to be a thin line. If your posts get edited or nuked, just deal with it. We're in a very trying time. Your patience is appreciated.

I don't want TrackForum, which is where race fans come to talk racing, to be a place where we can't talk. But remember we are under the bounds of our subjective opinion of good taste, especially for the next week or so.

Thank you for your patience and your respect.

I appreciate that Rev. Everyone deals with tragedy differently. Some just like to remember. Others ask questions. Neither way is the correct way or the wrong way. As long as it's done with respect I see nothing wrong with it. Each member here should be able to mourn in their own way. I do agree that some topics need to be avoided - such as replacement driver. People just need to use good judgment.

          Dear Rev,

I've been lurking around internet racing forums for ten years. This is the only one where I've felt comfortable posting. Thanks for all you do for TF.

          Still in mourning...

Thank you rev.... that's why we voted you KING!

Can we trash the whole league or car design? Nope.
I'm hoping that means ANY certain individuals of the league as well?
              But that's just my opinion!

The IRL have a lot on their plate before next season. I think they will be under scrutiny. With all do respect, I think that the ramifications in light of the recent accidents should not be escalated for political gain by any party. If there are concerns about safety improvements and/or rule amendments, then I think that should be discussed in a closed forum. I was referred to IRL management by a IRL team owner regarding my concerns. My concerns are opposite from the recent accidents that I do not wish to elaborate on.

Very well stated, Rev. I've had to bite my typing fingers a couple of times today after being tempted to respond to people who seemed to have been waiting for an accident like this to further unload more clueless hostility on the league.

Like most other race fans, I feel a deep sense of loss and grief over yesterday's accident. I agree that we need to mourn the loss first. There is plenty of time for what I hope will be intelligent, tactful discussion and debate.

Very well put and very tastefully said. Thank you, Ed. I, too, liked the "deal with it" part.

I appreciate your efforts, everyone, to keep this a time of respectful discussion at TF. A few of you who have axes to grind may find yourself out in the cold for a while if you can't learn proper respect.

Too many people are still VERY hurt by the events of less than 36 hours ago. PLEASE watch your step.

Thanks for being TF's gaurdian angel Rev!
For the record, I never had a problem with CART in 1995. Its when they turned beligerant twards IMS and their fans for supporting the IRL that turned me off them.
