  • Hit from Behind? Whaaaat?

Check out the links on the "Coverage Around the World" thread. The AP wire story carried in most of the papers claim that Brack was hit from behind. In today's Washington Post it says Brack crashed when hit from behind by Tomas Scheckter.

We all saw the tape and know Scheckter was the victim in this tangle...but where are they getting the "hit from behind" stuff? Was Kenny slightly nudged in the rear, sending him down into Scheckter's lane?

It's just the clueless stick and ball media trying to write a piece on something they know little or nothing about. You can bet your last dollar the only part of the race they even saw was the crash.

I read that in the USA Today Monday. Total misrepresentation of the fact and that was, for some reason, Kenny came down on Tomas. Tomas held his line, but for some reason Kenny kept creeping down on Tomas. Oh well, maybe someday the IRL will get good, factual reporting.

I'm sure irresponsible reporting like this happens more than you'd think - that's why it's important to take EVERYTHING you see or hear reported with a grain of salt.

I noticed that, too. Pretty weak reporting of a serious collision.

This is pretty simple actually. We all saw it and know that this is totally wrong. However most of the people only see NASCAR and that is what happens in NASCAR when someone is bumped from behind. So that must be what happened to Kenny.

Since we all took history in school, isn't interesting to know that much history is a one-sided account of an event.

What irks me (maybe its too soon for the truth), DW was a 16-oval WIN specialist, yet the vast majority those boohooing for him, hardcarders & fans, alike are the same ones trying to kill anything with more than 9 deg banking & 4 corners, where Dan ultimately made his home...

What Outlaw said, plus the writer (Mike Harris, AP Motorsports Writer) sees Tomas Scheckter involved and given his reputation for wrecking puts 2 + 2 together to get 5.

Are you refering to "Operation Mint Julep"?

In some corners of the Old South, it is referred to as "The War of Northern Aggression". Growing up and going to school in the North, you get one side. Living in the South, and immersing oneself in the culture (if you can still find it), you realize that there are indeed two sides to that story.

                        And this from Associated Press:
Brack was airlifted to Parkland Memorial Hospital after being removed from what was left of his car, which was hit by Tomas Scheckter.
Was AP the source of this fantasy?

I've seen the crash described this way by quite a few news sources. I even heard the local sports babe on WRTV Sunday night saying Brack was "hit from behind" even as they were showing the video clip! Too bad she didn't bother to watch the clip herself! Very poor reporting by a lot of news organizations.
