  • Good Point Made About IRL Drivers

Someone made a great point last night:

Indy Car racing is so much more competitive than it has ever been, and it is not just the "local Americans" that compete for those seats anymore, it is sought globally.

I personally always looked at the non-american drivers as a threat because of what happened with the Brazilians and the near destruction of my beloved sport DUE to foreign influence.

But I think I need to relax a little and realize the invasion from Brazil is over, CART is a footnote, and my beloved sport is doing darn well. If you are a great driver you will find a way to the top, not a good driver, a great driver. Stewart, Gordon, Schumacher, Hornish all found a way.

Good is no longer good enough, you have to be the best of the best. If the best drivers in the world are coming out of dirt ovals we have nothing to worry about.....and personally I hope they are because I do not get across the pond much

    May the best driver win!

Seems like the latest arrivals are from Australia and England. Right now, I would like two new Americans for every foreigner coming into American racing, both CART and the IRL. I don't hate the foreigners, but I do find myself rooting for the Americans more.

Since I'm a vocal proponent of going out and looking for better American talent, it might surprise you that I agree with you. My problem isn't with the strength of the visiting team, my problem is with talent level of the home team.

I feel like a fan of a perennially losing midwestern NFL franchise that recently drafted its third or fourth big-name college quarterback from a big-name passing college program. Maybe instead of continuing to do what is getting our butts kicked year after year, we could look at some smaller schools for some talented linemen to block a little.
