  • Johncock, Parnelli, Pancho & Vuky to race in Texas!

Just saw on the TMS web site that they have added Gordon Johncock, Parnelli Jones, Pancho Carter and Billy Vukovich II to the Heroes race they have scheduled. How cool!!!

They also announced that Al Unser will drive the pace car as well (would have liked to seen him race).

That means Johncock, Parnelli, Pancho, Vuky, Rutherford, Ruby and McCelreath are going to be in the race with A.J. as Grand Marshal and Unser driving the pace car. That's like a living museum of Indy car history.

They say more drivers are to be named, so...

Man, this is a great way to hold the season finale championship race with these great guys racing those cool Roadsters right before. WOW!

How come we aren't discussing this more? Who would you like to see added to this race?

is it true AJ could not race because he could not get in the car?

I can't believe he would not run if he could, it sounds like a riot. Any chance they will show highlights of the race on race day?

I I heard that he isn't racing because of some recent elbow surgery or something...

That is probably true, Jim. I remember him doing some laps in the '61 winner several years ago and he was sitting on the side of the seat. Looked like he was standing up in the car.

The thing about A.J. is true...I read that he had elbow surgery and had to withdraw from the race. Too bad...would've been cool to see Super Tex race in Texas!

I don't know, but I sure hope ESPN shows more than just a brief clip of it 'cause I bet it's going to be awesome! I'd love to see Big Al racing instead of pacing...but, since he's not in it, put my money on the local boy...

              Heroes Pick 5:

              1st - Johnny Rutherford
              2nd - Gordon Johncock
              3rd - Pancho Carter
              4th - Parnelli Jones
              5th - Lloyd Ruby
              Johnny Lightning beats them all!

I really wish they'd do this at Indy too. Can't make it to Texas and even as good as the racin' is there, I'd be more excited to see these heroes race than I would the IRL race! Put Gary B in the lineup too! Sort of reminds me of the old "Fastmasters" Lingner group put on in the old Thunder days. But cooler cars
                It really IS all good!

Oh, how I would LOVE to see Billy V in a race car again!!!! He was always my favorite - and that was a LONG time ago (I used to be president of his fan club way back when I was a kid).

I sure hope they film it or something - that would be so neat. I would definitely buy a copy of the tape!

I thought that was a list of drivers wanting to test for Panther!...

I hope the mouse is smart enough to tape this race and show it later.

Pancho's got a busy weekend spotting for Sam and Mark as well as racing, plus Dane his son has his first IPS race at Texas.
Who is going to spot for Pancho?

There was no problem getting AJ into the car, the safety team was ready with the jaws of life to help. He had and operation on his elbow, as he said it was somthing from one of his old racing accidents.

If this isn't televised or at least taped, it'd be a crying shame.

Think I'll go home and watch my tapes of the "Fast Masters" races again...
