  • HOLY CRAP! What a race!

After missing last years Delphi Indy 300, I swore that I wouldn't miss another one. And, man, am I glad I swore that! That was the most intense race I've ever been to. I was at Michigan and was terribly disappointed when Sam was edged out at the line, but today's race more than made up for that. A three wide finish at one of the IRL's best tracks. What more can I say. If any of you ever get the chance to go to an IndyCar race at Chicagoland Speedway, DO IT! I'm still out of breath from that race. Who thought that watching a race could be such a taxing experience! I LOVE THE IRL!

Ho hum. Just another boring IRL finish.
These things are scripted according to a lot of detractors.

What a boring race , real racecar drivers drive side by side and bang into each other and then get out and beat each other up.

                ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright enough of that, That was a GREAT!!!!! race. The start, middle, and the finish had me on the end of my seat.
It was a very exciting race and i cannot wait for the next one.

Man, you think THAT was intense, you should have seen the famous pass ... at turn 5 at Road America wayyyy back in 83 that Steve Chassey in an Eagle Chevy put on Pancho Carter. Chassey spent about 3 laps setting Pancho up and then BAM under braking just blew by Pancho.

Man, if that ain't ever the best kind! There's nothing like scaring the crap out of yourself to make you appreciate your life.

                      And errrrrrr, it's fun too.

Funny thing is, you can quote me on that, that's fine, but at least can appreciate both left and right hand turns, if you ever figure out left and right, let me know. Today's race was awesome, so was that race in 83, but that's the difference between you and me, I can appreciate all kinds of racing, apparently you can't. I offered up the 83 example because it involved a couple of short trackers. I've seen plenty of beautiful passes since then both on ovals and road courses. Why don't you open your mind, try new things....or does that scare you?

I'm right with you Sabin24! That race was incredible! It seemed like every lap I kept waiting for them to wad up about 10 race cars.

By far the best, most exciting race that I have personally witnessed.

Can't wait to go back. The local radio network was pushing to get a second IRL race at Chicago. There comments were "the heck with a second Winston Cup race, give me another IRL race!"

Man, I wish you would have TOLD me that before I spent all that money going to the Canadian and US Grands Prix, the Knoxville Nationals, Winston Cup races at Bristol, Darlington, North Wilksboro, Michigan and Rockingham, CART races at Road America, Milwaukee, Chicago Motor Speedway, and Belle Isle and IRL races at Atlanta, Disney, Michigan, Phoenix, Chicagoland and, of course, Indy. You could have helped my closed mind... and my wallet!

Agree with everything all of you have said ...amazing race, lots of green, breathtaking finish....FANTASTIC

So ...I've said all that and noone accuse me of saying it was a bad race

BUT ...BUT (and I hate to go a bit contrary to the rest of the thread) ---- what I would REALLY REALLY have liked even more was to have a real run to the finish under green flag conditions. I really want to see (for just 1 race this year) a mad scramble of pit changes with everyone changing under green....so that driver perfection, team perfection et al come into play.....

I felt a little short changed this race with so much being decided by pure luck on the last pit stops...with guys like Scheckter missing out on the yellow by one lap.
I just think there's too much luck involved with these lap 194 restarts......it adds an element of impurity and means that 194 laps of great driving can be too easily squashed by a stroke of bad fortune

Please can I see just one dash to the finish under green this year !!!!!!
