  • Al jr. farewell tour

Question: Does Kelley Racing plan on running Tony Renna for the remainder of the IRL IndyCar Series season? (Barry from Carmel, Ind.)

Answer: The remainder? No. Some? Yes. You should also know that Renna is on schedule to be a full-time driver for the team in 2004. The fact is, he looks like a No. 1 to me based on his drives last year in place of Al Unser Jr. and in this year's 500. He's very talented and smart, too

Interesting. Renna in... I don't see Kelley axious to expand. Corteco goes with Unser... I believe that leaves Sharp on the blunt end of the hard stick. Yet who had the championship points lead up until Indy????

Unser I could see. Sharp getting pushed out... would be just wrong.

I thought that they were looking to expand to a 3 car team in 2004.

Why does everyone pick on Little Al? In his three years in IndyCar has has been 9th, 7th, and 7th (Would have been 5th if he had not missed 2 races) in points and done it without destroying hardly any cars and with inferior equipment at times.

Cheever had a chance to pick him over Scheckter, but didnt do it. Although Scheckter is much more of a hardcharger, he finished 2002 14th in points. Little Al would have been in the top five and posted several wins, including Indy, without crashing one car.

If you dont like Unser personally and maybe he is a pain to work with then fine, but you cant pick him apart on performance.

this is the second time I have not been able to make speedy's link work, anyone else have this problem?

Hey speedy, is this a new way to interject IndyCar negative into this forum through a side door, you are 2 for 2 at it now? If so, it ain't new, someone else from your side does it all the time. You don't like IndyCar, why the new found interest?

I am a big AUJ fan. I believe his contract with Kelley was for two years with an option for a third year. I hope he steps it up and wins at least a race or two this year.

              Try this Mackie.

He got his address and link text backwards.

                Why?

If you're going to keep one old guy (a guy over 30) on the team, do you keep the Indy 500 winner or a guy whose career will be defined as the polesitter who couldn't even lead the field to Turn 2?

I do think that if Unser's year continues like this, he should look at 2004 as a Retirement Tour.

But when you look at Sharp's record, and compared it to the equipment he had... he's underachieved.

I'm not picking on Al... but I'd rather have Sharp.

He has the equipment to compete this year, and Sharps doing much better. nuff said.

                    Thanks Nut.

Mine should work now as well.

Sharp is only 15 points ahead of Little Al. I personally think both drivers are doing well this year and outside of Penske, this team may be the best . This stretch here over June and July should be interesting. Some of Unser's best tracks are coming up.

Sharp has won a race in every season he has been in the IRL. Little Al came this () close to winning at Texas last year. I don't think anybody is going to get pushed out. Kelley runs his team as a business (not to lose money or run it in the red). Both Sharp and Unser are secure with thier sponsorship. If and when Renna comes on board full time it will be with sufficient sponsorship to cover the expenses to run his third car, not siphon funds from the other two.

I also continue to see the humor in those who keep trying to justify Sharp's ouster based on the first turn in Indianapolis. Micheal Andretti never won Indy in his entire career. Sharp has alot of Indy's left in him yet.

He pretty much has the best record in the IRL with wins. Why would you dump a guy like that?!

Still no joy, could be a direcway issue with me, I fight them on a daily basis. The only way I could reliably go through links was to change my LAN settings from proxy and now I get 20 popups an hour with them trying to switch me back.

Another way to compare two drivers is the number of single car accidents they have that aren't due to mechanic failures. Pretty obvious who comes out ahead on that one. Unser's a keeper!
