  • Yeley is packing his bags

As you all sit here and debate back and forth about weither or not Yeley is qualified to drive an Indy car - (which he already has run about 8 or 10 IRL races, not to mention the 1000's of laps of rear-engine "experience" he has gained driving the IRL's two seater) Yeley is probalbly at home packing his bags for a move to North Carolina to join the NASCAR ranks - and in a cople of years you will be able to buy JJ Yeley shirts in Wal-Mart and see Yeley shirts and hats everywhere you look - kind of like some other USAC'ers I know that have no rear engine experience #24 & #12 - - there is also a guy that drives a #20 - not to mention Jason Leffler, Kasey Khane, Dave Blaney, `

I guess this leads us to a dozen threads, each blaming a team, owner or the day of the month, when in fact, he never was coming anyway. IMO, IndyCar and it's teams got a "Cleveland," pulled on them, again. Ford may have been on the fence, if that is where he is going, or whatever other manufacturer. With Hendricks nailing another young winner and RCR and DEI running near the front, Dodge with another couple of young guns, but not enough and Ford close, all potential car-control specialist must be covered. It is nobody's fault but T,H & Chord, if they are going to support this series, they must "cover" some drivers

Well I for one am disappointed in Yeley, he made comments earlier this year that he was interested in the IRL but that no teams would give him a shot. Now it seems that Panther wants to give him a test and look at him for next year and he says he isn't interested (see TSO for the full story). The two time defending champion IRL team has you on a short list and you say no thanks, then don't tell me they weren't interested. Good luck down south JJ and don't forget while Grodon, Stewart and Newman have made the move look like a sure thing Kahne and Leffler have yet to really impress and Ford hasn't done a real good job of bringing up their young guns, look at Scott Riggs who they couldn't find a seat for and is now looking at a DEI Chevy next year.

        Is it May yet ?

it is amazing that I made it thru my entire childhood and beyond being an indy car fan but not spending one minute agonizing about what driver did not get a chance to run an indy car.

The IRL is the best open wheel racing in the world, today, and my guess is 10 years from now. I hope anyone who wants to works hard and gets a chance to race, but I am going to try real hard not to lose too much sleep over it.

Life is great folks, there is some bad in it, but if all you do is focus on the negative than before you know it you will be the old **** you used to laugh at when you were a kid.

You are wrong on this one. T & H ARE supporting the series with a massive amount of marketing and the inclusion of a number of cars on the grid that wouldn't be there otherwise.

It's the leagues fault that there is no emphasis for hiring the best from America's short tracks and only it's fault. TG could have put incentives in many area's years ago to encourage teams and engine manufacturers to select USAC drivers. TG could have insisted tha T & H put together an engine package for teams like Helmelgarn, a guy more inclined to give an American short-tracker a chance, but he didn't. It hasn't done anything and gave up on that part of the vision a number of years ago. Tony George himself stated that one of the needs of the IRL was to correct the control that foreign engine manufacturers had on Cart and their preponderance to insist that factory teams hire drivers(almost always foreign) of their choosing. Asking them to change now is ludicrous unless a deal had been made before the manufacturers had entered the league.

Maybe the reason J.J. Is going South is because his contract with MOPAR. Everyone keeps saying Ford. But I am told he is under a Mopar contract.

That is possible, but they haven't done much better then Ford with their young drivers (I exclude Newman because he was a Penske find not Dodge). Atwood was pretty much a flop becuae they threw him in too fast, Leffler was a Dodge guy and pretty much did nothing. Basically the manufactures haven't been great at bringing up drivers it has been the teams that did it (Hendrick, Gibbs, Penske) so unless JJ has a deal with a top team, he may just get lost in the shuffle.

I wish he would sign with nascar right now so all these threads could be moved off the IRL board. One more JJ and I think I'll scream.

JJ may have some bad memories from Menard but it is not every year that the 4 car will become available.

If he wasn't interested it shouldn't have said he was.

Of course, we are talking about the same driver who told a Pro Series team he would compete in a race and then never showed and never called. Basically just left them hanging.

I just can't wait until he makes an announcement about next year and then the threads start that Panther never tested him and never even tried.
It's not about the IRL missing an opportunity. It's about JJ's choices. That's it.

I'm closing this one. If you want to comment on Mr. Yeley there are still plenty of threads to do so.
