  • Does Anybody Besides Me

think that John Andretti would make a fine senior member of the Panther team on a variety of levels?

Not there's any chance it would happen, but it's pretty good food for thought.

No! It would be great to have the name, but we need 'em young, bold and exciting. IMO, John is not done with NASCAR, the next team that gets in a "tight" will give him in a ring. When Michael passed on his cousin after Dario was injured, that about said it all.

I think John would make a good mentor for Quatro in a second Foyt car.

I actually agree with that, but the biggest problem I have is that John already got kicked out of a team that should have done a lot better but has spent the past few years not living up to expectations.

He doesn't need any more of that.

In principle, however, it's a great idea.

Nope, I am guessing that you are the only one with that idea .

Seriously I don't think we ever see John in any open wheel cars again.

Do you want name recognition or someone who still has the talent?

John Andretti has both but I still don't think he & Panther are a good fit.

And now he gets signed to drive the DEI 1 car.

He's been out of an open wheel car 10 years now and has been spending his time with a racing organization that completely fails to put a competitive car on the track week in and week out. I don't see how he could add anything to the IRL. I agree with he poster wanting young, bold and brash drivers.

TJS, John has a couple of NASCAR wims, when you win at Martinsville you know to drive. That, coupeled with once you are in... Hey, they still give Skinner a shot!

I agree with Outlaw. I don't think John Andretti will ever return to full-time open wheel racing.

This question is a little off the subject, but it may be pertinent to this and other threads--has there EVER been a full-time NASCAR driver who left NASCAR to drive full-time in another series? I can't think of any offhand...

I'm guessing there's some reason you'd disqualify Steve Kinser from that list...

No, I didn't know he was ever a NASCAR driver. I didn't say there weren't any; I just couldn't think of any. When was Kinser in NASCAR?
