  • Buddy Lazier to Panther?

If Buddy and Hemmelgarn are parting ways I bet Buddy gets a ride with Panther. Chevy needs a top driver and Buddy is a proven champion. If Panther runs a second car, I think Mark Taylor will pick that up.

...that seems to be my thoughts, though I've not read anything confirming that...yet.

With Buddy 'almost' out of the car at Kansas City coupled with the reports of Aaron Fike moving up to the Indycar Series I'd say it's looking more and more probable.

However, I don't envision Buddy racing at Panther either.

Buddy, while not over the hill, has reached the crest and is/may be on the downhill side. Panther (IMO) seems more likely to pursue someone with a little more upside than Buddy presents at this point in time. I'll believe Panther will be a 2-car team when I see both of them hit the track for a whole season.

I think if they gave the guy a test we might find out different. He was good enough to win the championship 3 seasons ago,and was in the hunt just two seasons ago. Since then, I don't believe the car has been very good. I think if you put a Panther or a Penske under the guy he would be a championship threat again. I'de sure like to see what Helio could do with the hemelgarn ride. I'de bet it wouldn't be much.

If Buddy is done at Hemelgarn I can almost guarantee he will at least get a test with Panther. And IMO that is all Buddy will need to show he is still fast.

If Panther is going 1-car Buddy would be a bad fit, but he'd be a good choice for a 2-car team. Ideally you want 1 speedy young hotshot and 1 wise old experienced veteran.

For just one season, and possibly more, I'd like to see Buddy in a first class ride. He can still get the job done. All someone needs to do is let him do it.

Buddy might not be a spring chicken, but don't let his calm demeanor and near-disasterous past two years fool you into thinking he's not one of the hardest charging and aggressive drivers in all of open wheel over the past eight years.

I am afraid Buddy might be at the point of doing Indy as a one off.

While we are speculating has Cheap resigned Tomas?

After this season Cheap might want someone who can keep the car in one peice.
If the league is not going to shift their stance on the fees I would imagine all of the ovals would start being replaced by "chamber of commerce financially supported" TV infomercials dressed up like a car race for different city centers across the USA.

I heard somewhere he has until Sept. 15 to pick up Tomas' option. Supposedly, he is going to do so but stranger things have happened.

I'm sorry but I have seen nothing from Buddy to believe he could be competitive again. Yes the engine wasn't the best but he wasn't even in the top half of the second tier. Some may say that the team didn't test. Maybe true, but that team never improved at the track, and there is lots of practice time at one of these events(read i didn't say race).

lets move on and provide a seat to somebody else to prove their current wears!

Buddy, in competitive equipment, is as good a driver as I've ever seen at Indy. Yes, that's a huge statement. But I'm telling you that he handles traffic as well as anyone, and is not afraid to run the outside line at speed. He's a tiger in the race. It's been SO disappointing these past couple of years to see him with a substandard team.
"I'm going to push the gas and try to beat you," Ray said. "That's what I do. If you pull up beside me and rev up your engine, I'm going to race you, even if I'm sitting on a tractor."
